Libertarian.

Unfortunately, with a lack of any candidates other than Democrats in Massachusetts (other than our govenors), it's pretty slim pickings come election time around here.

And it makes me sick every time I see or hear "Big Head Ted" Kennedy.

I LOVE your governor Mitt Romney. He's coming to Arkansas in a couple of weeks. He's a long time friend of one of my good friends. She says he's he smartest person she's ever met. And that's a lot coming from her as I think SHE is the smartest person that I've ever met - one of those 1600 SAT people with a 4.0 in Engineering at Stanford, a success at everything.

I have to say the exact opposite. Right of right, don't remember ever voting for a democrat and can't see it happening soon.

I think the Dis leans way left and while 3 or 4 righties are vocal, they are usually pitted against 20 rabid lefties. Drives me a bit nutty at times.

This is how I "thought" the DIS boards play out. I usually don't read the political threads but it shows on other threads.

I'm a very conservative republican. I loved Reagan and I'm not ashamed to admit I like our current president.

I think these boards lean very much to the left, I don't post on political threads because I don't think I could run the with big dogs!!

That describes me. I always forget who said it... if you're under 30(?) and you're a Repub you have no heart, over 30 and a Democrat you have no brain. ;)

I'm a registered Democrat and have voted that way every election, minus a few R votes on the local township level.

I chose liberal because so far I've tended to vote on social issues, where I'm very liberal. But, I'm a fiscal Conservative and there are some other issues where I'd fall more on the Conservative side, like illegal immigration.

So I'd say I'm a moderate, leaning liberal.

Liberal.

If anyone is interested, there is a website based out of the UK that has you take a test and it plots you on an axis of where you stand politically. It's fascinating. I always give it to my students to take. What's neat is that they plot our political leaders, too, and show you where you are in comparison.

You can check it out at www.politicalcompass.org

No one interested in declaring they're a fiscal liberal?? ;)

Whew! Thank God I just made it- I'm a 34 year old Republican. I guess I have a brain and a heart!

Interesting site, Florida_Mom, thanks. It put me right where I thought I'd be.

Oh, and I guess I don't have a brain or a heart. :rotfl2: I find myself getting more liberal as I grow older. Under 30 I was an uber-Republican, and while still registered as one today, at age 41, I find myself slowly gravitating toward the middle and left. To me, it's the opposite, though. Sometimes life experiences teach us to be more compassionate as we mature.

Hmm, look at the poll numbers, it's even between Libs and Cons with a healthy showing of Mods. It's funny how the right thinks the boards lean left and the left thinks the boards lean right! :tilt:

I took it...I fell into the same quadrant as Mahamtma Ghandi and Nelson Mandela...but kinda close to the center...seems about right.

I'm a strict fiscal conservative Republican. I hate when my money is wasted! However, I tend to fall more in line socially with maybe a moderate or slightly left of center. I believe in all people being able to live with whom they love in a bond that is legally recognized. I also believe it a woman's right to choose. So, believe me, I have a really tough time in the voting booth.

:rotfl:

I voted moderate. I'm somewhat libertarian in my beliefs but I'd say I'm very close to arminnie's Rockefeller Republican description. My favorite President of the US is Theodore Roosevelt, if that tells you anything.

I don't vote for the party but for the person. I've voted for Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians, and independents, sometimes all in the same election. I voted for Bush the last two times but voted in the Democrat US Senate primary here in VA this year, and if former Gov. Mark Warner throws his hat into the ring for the Dem nomination in '08, I would support him.

We always hear about cutting or raising taxes, or increasing spending. I would love to see someone from either party make a serious proposal to cut spending. Of course, if that happens there will be a run on paper bags because everyone from the halls of Congress to the man on the street will be hyperventilating. :teeth:

The politicalcompass.org quiz has been posted here before, and I have to say that I hate it with a purple passion.

First, there is no "not sure/undecided" choice to the questions. With a question like "The enemy of my enemy is my friend", have a hard time either agreeing or disagreeing, because sometimes it may be true but sometimes it isn't.

And this question -- "A significant advantage of a one-party state is that it avoids all the arguments that delay progress in a democratic political system." Umm, yeah, I agree that is an advantage, but does that make a one-party state right or the best form? Cuba and North Korea are one-party states, but are they better off than the US? Another question where a neutral answer choice would be preferred.

Second, some of the questions leave me with other questions. For example, "Our race has many superior qualities, compared with other races." What "other races"?? Ewoks???? Or did Magento from the X-Men movies contribute this question?? I answered disagree just so I could complete the test, but this "other races" business is ridiculous.

Yeah, I get that the test creator probably wants people to make a decision one way or another, but it's frustrating because everything isn't as black and white as they want to make it.

In any event, I scored Economic Left/Right: 1.75, Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -0.46, below where it shows Gerhard Schroeder on the international chart.

Personally I prefer the Worlds Smallest Political Quiz found here -- http://www.theadvocates.org/quiz.html. I fall squarely into the Libertarian range

I just took the political compass test and I am happy to announce that I am still a heartless Republican with no compassion. :thumbsup2

Wow, I took it and I'm on almost the same point in the graph as the Dali Lama! I can think of worse people to be associated with on economic and social issues! :goodvibes

Hmmm, took this one and it says I'm a Centrist (on the Liberal side), and I agree with that!

CENTRISTS espouse a "middle ground" regarding government
control of the economy and personal behavior. Depending on
the issue, they sometimes favor government intervention
and sometimes support individual freedom of choice.

Centrists pride themselves on keeping an open mind,
tend to oppose "political extremes," and emphasize what
they describe as "practical" solutions to problems.
