How do you heat up a hot dog?

I just got a package of Hebrew National hot dogs from Costco. I'm used to cheapie hot dogs, but these were a special. They seem to have a bit more spices than many of the bargain hot dogs I get. However, I decided to boil them instead of microwaving or pan frying them. I did sort of place them in a pan for a little bit to dry them out, but I sort of rolled them around to keep from scorch marks.

One time I just sort of left them there. The water got darker and the spices seems to have been boiled out of the meat and gone into the water. The water was like a nice broth though. Is this normal or maybe something specific to Hebrew National?

There is no such thing as a bad hot dog, but I agree grilled is the best.

Having said that, I don't have the patience for grilling so I microwave. I know, I know -- but I can eat 4 hot dogs before you get the grill warmed up!

You really can't go wrong. I microwave when I am lazy. Grilling is good, and boiling works too. At the end of the day, it's a hot dog.

I boil them first and then grill

I was thinking of doing that, just because it's hard to get them properly heated on a pan without excessively scorching them. I of course will microwave, but that creates weird results where the casing will split and sometimes get dark spots that dried out.

Heck - I've eaten them cold before. Just tossed a pack in a cooler and took them with us and tossed them on a bun.

Costco hot dogs are steamed. When I was in elementary school I think Thursdays were hot dog days and those were boiled. But when I boiled them they were OK, but not after soaking for an hour.

I haven’t boiled a hotdog in years. Growing up, I think that was the most common way we cooked them. Now the thought of boiled hotdogs gross me out.

I grill, pan fry or microwave them these days.

I boil them. Setting up to grill them takes to long, and I don't really like the dry, crispy outside you get that way. Pan frying - same thing, can't get an even cook, and wind up with dry spots.

I've never thought about using the microwave, well, I did, but I thought it would split them open, so never did it that way.

They do split, but I make 3 or 4 cuts through a hotdog before I microwave it. Then it splits evenly and looks a bit nicer. Lol.

Grill or pan fry. Or put a bed of sauerkraut on a plate and bury the dog in it before nuking. Also works if you've made the "real deal" onions for that NYC corner taste. Don't forget to steam the bun in the last 10 seconds of microwaving.

With a blow torch. Makes it easy to burn them to ash so I can sweep them away into the trash can. Obviously, I don't care for hotdogs.:crazy2:

Kids are fine with microwaved or cooked on a stick over the firepit. On the rare occasions we eat them, that's what they do.

I am usually making frozen fries to go with them, so I bake them. I give the fries a 5-7 minute head start, then add the hot dogs. I put the hot dogs in a little “pan” I make out of foil to keep the fries from getting messed up. I am only making for one person though. If I were making for a group, I would have one pan for fries and another for hot dogs.

The only grill I have is a George Foreman, and hot dogs tend to roll off if you don’t place them just right.

Grill is option 1. If unavailable, then Low microwave for a minute or two, butterfly them and then pan fry them for some crispy edges.
