Some things have happened lately that are causing me to stress out a little too much and I'm looking for ways to unwind. How do you soothe yourself when life gets to be a little too much?

Besides a trip to WDW that is! Wouldn't that be the perfect solution? :)

First of all, {hugs} to you Planogirl! :)

Here are some things I do to deal with stress:
1. I pray.
2. I journal.
3. I make sure I have "me" time. This is important to me. I take
time for myself daily, even if it is just a few minutes. Sometimes
I read, sometimes I just sit and watch tv, sometimes I just veg.
But it is a time where I can just relax and focus on being good
to myself. It is important, and not selfish, to take care of
yourself.
4. I take a nap. Make sure you are getting enough sleep at night.
If not, treat yourself to a nap during the day, if possible.

How does this sound....long hot bubble bath, light some candles, a glass of wine, maybe a good book or soft music. Sounds good to me.

Thanks JC2. Great advice all but the sleeping part is a problem. Stress keeps me awake even though I need the sleep.

LOL Kissimmee JP. :teeth:

Ooh Teenee, that does sound heavenly!

I knew that I could count on the DISers for good ideas. :)

A daily dose of ice cream. ;)
My dh says walking on the treadmill helps him. I can always tell when things are getting to him at work 'cause he starts using it again.
Of course, it would NEVER be anything related to home and family that would cause him to get back on it! LOL!!

The ice cream sounds good but I don't know about that tread mill. :p

Thanks!

Take a walk or sit on the beach. That always relaxes me, the sounds of the ocean/gulf.

Or at times I just scream real loud, that helps but only if you are alone. Might get some funny looks if you were in a room full of people.

Good luck though.

This would be my suggestion too. The only thing I would add is to look for aromatherapy candles and bubblebath specifically for stress reduction!

And of course...keep DISing :p

Hang in there.

Put on some headphones, sit back in the papasan, and I have no choice to relax (and adult beverages don't hurt either). :teeth:

Aroma therapy

At Bed Bath & Beyond, you can purchase "Stress Free Massage Lotion". It has camomile & lavender and smells wonderful. I carry a bottle with me in my purse and on stressful days at work I just rub some on my hands, place my hands over my face and breathe deeply.
It is very soothing.

Also, to help you sleep, try camomile tea. You can purchase the Celetial Seasons variety at just about any grocery store.

There are also various oils that you can purchase....Bath & Body Works has a full line. These are wonderful in the bath.

And if all else fails...how about a big {{{HUG}}}.

Sorry you are going through a stressful time.

Well, to be honest, my wife tells me the only time she actually sees the stress completely leave me is when we get to WDW. But, of course, we can't go there everythime we are stressed.

I like the suggestions about beer and ice cream (I wonder what flaver goes best with beer - I'll have to experiment).

When I really need to relax, though, I do what Sonor said and put on some headphones and listen to my Carpenters CD's with the room all dark and nobody around. Karen Carpenter has the most soothing voice I've ever heard, but you can listen to any of your own favorites. You just need to get lost in the music.

Hope all goes well for you :D

Let's see now... Turkey Hill Chocolate Marshmallow and Heineken...

Picture yourself near a stream. Birds are softly chirping in the crisp, cool, mountain air. Nothing can bother you here. No one knows this secret place. You are in total seclusion from that place called "the world." The soothing sound of a gentle waterfall fills the air with a cascade of serenity. The water is clear. You can easily make out the face of the person whose head you're holding under the water. ;)

Actually, praying works wonders for me or reading the Bible. Job is a good book to read to get me out of my rut. It shows me that my life isn't so bad after all.

Hope all goes well for you.

I like the wine and bath idea, but Coconut Rum and Pineapple Juice is pretty good as well.

In no particular order, chocolate and the gym. When I'm stressed, I eat expensive chocolate which has a very soothing effect (just let it melt in your mouth). I also go to the gym or out for a run. A really intense workout does wonders to relieve tension (and it works off those chocolate calories).

By mid March - and into early April (when the war was going hot and heavy), and my son was in Iraq - I finally had to resort to a doctor's visit and some "happy pills". They turned me into a much nicer person!!!!

Lots of prayer and a good glass of wine doesn't hurt either.;)

See, now here I was thinking you hung out in strip clubs trying to bum "change" to relax you. Blew my whole image. ;) :teeth:

So many good ideas! And thanks for the hugs and support. I'm not down or anything just very frazzled lately.

Ice cream and beer? Hmmmm.... ;) Music. Bath & Body Works. Camomile tea. Wine. Chocolate. Screaming. :teeth: I wish that I could walk on the beach like we used to but it's way too far away now. (Hmmmm, maybe a trip is in order.) Bath. Exercise. Prayer. Strip clubs. I have a great list of ideas now!

{{{{Hugs}}}} Twinmom7. I can't imagine how tough it's been.
