How do you handle changing rooms in one resort?

So the situation I will be in is this: It will be our first DVC trip. We have an OKW 2BR for a week, but I am arriving a day before most everyone else in the group, and have no need of a 2BR for that night, so I have a studio at OKW reserved for that one night.

I have read that many feel it is a good idea to check in at a DVC resort as early in the day as possible, which is clearly pretty early if I am already at OKW. I assume I will need to check in separately for the 2BR, right? Is there any agreed upon "best time to check in" or is it consistently hit or miss?

Does anyone know if I need to check out of the studio at the time I check in to the 2BR or if I can wait to check out until later in the morning (Like normal check out time)? Not sure I would really want to - might be more fun to be out and about, I suppose, but just wondering if anyone has experience with this type of situation.

Thanks in advance!

You might put on your request to stay in the same studio so you don't physically have to move everything out until the door opens between. When you check in, ask at the front desk to see if it might happen that way.

If you are going to be in the master bedroom, gather all your stuff together so you can move it easily and they can go ahead and change the linens out.

But if you keep the same studio, you probably won't get housekeeping. So no clean sheets and towels for the people using the studio/2nd bedroom if you plan to sleep in the 1 bedroom. :teeth:

You can check into the 2 bedroom as early as you like, and you have to check out of the studio by 11 am (no matter when you check into the 2 bedroom). I can't help with the best time to check in - I would think early is best. That way, if the rooms that are already cleaned and available don't meet your needs, you could ask to wait for a room that does, even if you can't get into it until after 4 pm.

Best wishes -

Thanks for your ideas - I don't mind moving if that is what it comes down to - and we haven't actually decided what the sleeping arrangments are going to be (does that sound like a recipe for disaster?) I was just wondering how it would all flow. Thanks again! :)

I do this switch out frequently. I go to the HH in the AM and check into the new room. If it is ready great, I make the move, if it is not I gather my things and move them to the car. I don't typically leave the studio until the family is fully ready or 11 whichever comes first! If you have heat sensitve items--my son brings his guitar--we check them at the HH and pick it up when our room is ready.
Sometimes the room is ready, sometimes not, but at OKW with parking right outside your door, it really isn't a huge deal to make the switch.
Typically in the earlier AM the HH is pretty empty so it works out well.

Hi Patsal,
It is good to hear that you have done this before. :) I can see where a car would make this a lot easier! We won't actually have one until my mom arrives in the afternoon that day. I think it is bell services for me, one way or another.

Unless, I wonder if I could get them to delay the bag delivery from DME until we got into the 2BR the next day. We could certainly manage one night with carry-ons only, especially if I mailed myself a small package of now-un-carry-on-able toiletries. I guess that might be my most streamlined course, if this is a possibility with DME-delivered baggage. Or I guess I could just have bell services get it first thing in the morning, too, eh?

Thanks again!
