How do you guys feel about.....

.....switching resorts during a stay. I'll be staying 7nts in October and right now I have POR booked because I am waiting to close on a resale and if availability is there I want to book my first trip "home" and cancel the POR res -- If all goes as planned I want to split my time between OKW and VWL but I don't know if checking in and out and in and out appeals to me as much as wanting to stay at both -- what do you guys think?? Is it as much of a pain as I think??

If you're going to spend a significant amount of time at the resort, and both resorts appeal to you, its probably worth it.

If you're going to spend most of your time in the parks, its probably not worth the trouble to switch.

We don't like to have to pack and un-pack an extra time. We haven't had any real trouble with check-in, but doing it twice just seems to add another potential point of failure.

To us, it seems like a big hassle to move. Over the next 40 years, we'll probably get to stay everywhere we want, so that is one reason we'd stay put. Plus hauling the food over to the new room would be a pain since we seem to be wierdo's and actually like to cook on vacation.

However, if we had to split ressies because of availability or point limitations, we'd do it in a hearbeat.

When we first joined DVC we found ourselves avoiding weekends to maximize the number of nights our points would provide us. We stayed off-site and at moderate DVC resorts. This was a royal pain to us. We felt like our vacation was too chopped up. We like to arrive, unpack and forget about the suitcases etc. until it's time to go home. So, we added more points, and now stay put. Must say, we enjoy this much more.

That said, it's really up to your individual vacation style.

I think it's no big deal. I've done it a couple of times not because we wanted to try 2 resorts, but because we made last minute ressies for something and had to split up the stay to get it.

On the flip side, DH thinks it's a BIG hassle. He feels we lost several hours of vacation time packing, unpacking and also moving perishables from resort to resort. Yes, they move your stuff, but it's safer to take any frozen foods over yourself. Unlike the previous poster, DH feels it's a hassle because we DO spend quite a bit of time in the rooms. Our whole family really has enjoyed the luxury of the beautiful rooms, sitting on the balcony, and just kicking back during the hot part of the day. If you switch resorts you are back on the 4 PM check in and may not have a room for several hours - right at the hottest part of the day.

Remember, you can check out the other resort on another trip. You have 40 years to try the others!

but now think it's just a big pain in the butt. We even had it down to a pretty simple science. We have what we call our "hygene" bag- one of those you can hang on the back of a door with all the little compartments. We keep it stocked year round with basically everything you'd find in our bathroom and medicine cabinet.We'd pack one small suitcase with enough clothing for the first couple nights we'd stay off-site and leave the big suitcase in the van till we got to WDW for the bulk of the trip. This way there was minimal unpacking-packing.I guess we're just too lazy to deal with hassle.

We have done it and will do it again in August. We will stay at VWL (DH's favorite) for5 days, VB (my favorite for R & R) for 3 days and OKW (our home!!) for 6 days. Not to mention our flight arrives late on Friday night so I go a room at the Hilton DTD on priceline.com and we decided to stay 2 nights there (to save those precious weekend points!!)

We don't mind, but then again, I don't have very much in the way of groceries that I have to worry about spoiling......we just buy a styrofoam cooler and fill it with ice and it holds over until we check into the new resort.

We have switched resorts in the past, and are planning to switch in the future.

It is somewhat of a pain in the butt packing stuff up, and the biggie.....package delivery. We take advantage of this quite often, and it will be limited your last day or two at the resort.

I still think it's worth switching, as there are so many nice resorts to stay at!

Even though I've never split time between two resorts, it is a nice option for those who want to try it. For us, arriving at our destination, unpacking, and settling in is fine. I know we'll be back at another time and can try other resorts. Last year it was VWL, this year it is BCV, next year it is VB/and OKW or VWL again. BWV don't appeal to us as much as the others.

Good luck with your decision and remember it is always about what is best for you and your family.

We do it all the time and have done so on numerous occasions. We have even stayed at 3 resorts duing a 15 day trip. We like it and it does make each stay feel like a seperate vacation. Disney makes it very easy for you to switch resorts and for us it has given us a chance to stay at every WDW resort but 2, plus we save on the very high Fri & Sat night points and we enjoy the change. We have moved pershibles many times with absolutely no problem.
