Yesterday morning after drinking 2 cups of milk with breakfast, DS decided it didnt sit too well and well...you get the idea. This happened all over my couch and rug. Mostly what came up was like curdled milk along with the vomit smell. I have tried Resolve carpet cleaner on the rug and couch a few times now. I wash it up with warm water and then vaccum. I have also used Febreeze a few times. I can not get rid of this sickening smell! Anyone have any tricks for getting out the hurley smell (as my kids call it)?
Thanks!

If Fabreeze didn't work, I'd suggest trying Oxy-Clean or a similar product. Just be sure to use very hot water when you dilute it--it cleans better that way. You can cool it down before you use it.

vinegar solution also works well -- but check for colorfastness of your carpet if you can (on a scrap piece). yes you'll have the vinegar odor to contend with, but after it fades in a day or so the rest of the smells are gone, too.

good luck!

Go to the vet's. We use a spray called Elminator. Works good for puppy training. I always keep a spray can on had --even in the wash. It's a great product. check to make sure the fabric is color fast--I have never had anything fade but better sure than sorry.

The cleaning columnist lady in our paper is always talking about a product called Odorzout. She swears it eliminates all odors.

Baking soda solution followed by club soda soaked cloth.

Hope it works.

From Mary Ellen's helpful hints book:

Shaving cream, followed up with water or club soda.
or
2 tbsp detergent, 2 tbsp vinegar and 1 qt warm water.

She also says:

After you have completed one of the above methods, cover the spot with a clean towel and place a heavy book on top of it. When the towel becomes damp replace it with a dry one (hey, I'm just typing what she wrote!)

I'd also recommend baking soda. I'd probably use a combination of baking soda and water, then I'd let baking soda sit on the carpet after it was dry. Continue sprinking and vacuuming (about an hour after you sprinkle the baking soda) until all of the odor is gone.

I swear by "Nature's Miracle" for any stain or odor that comes from my dogs or kids' bodies. LOL! It is the only thing I have ever tried that totally eliminates the smell. My dog can't even find the places again(we had to use it to clean up after my sister's puppy when he was here). It comes in a white bottle with red lettering and you can buy it in Petsmart. Good luck!

You can also rent a steam cleaner at most grocery stores- that may help get the last "barfy" bits up that are still causing the smell.

Thanks for all the ideas! I guess I do have some options other than buying a new couch and rug. ;)

This may sound dumb, but can you remove the foam cushion ?
The foam will keep the smell unless you get it clean also you may want to get new foam or have your foam injected with a odor killer.
Just my 2cents

Gosh I wish I had the DIS when dd threw up one of those LARGE shakes from Dennys on her mattress! We had to throw it away.

Good Luck

Is your son feeling better? the poor little guy, the smell will go away over the yrs but for now, the baking soda sounds like a good bet.
:D
