How do you get chosen to be in the parade?

How do you get chosen to be in the parades. Is it a random choice or is there something you can do to get picked? Also how do you get chosen to open the park in the morning?

Both of those are pure luck. Asking doesn't help. Some people say if there's something you can do to stand out---like having your whole family dress alike.

Wish I could tell you, but I don't know!! We were lucky enough to be chosen to be in the parade in Animal Kingdom on our trip this past December. We were at the meet and greets, and I had prompted the girls with questions to ask the characters (trying to make the interaction much more fun for them). Just after meeting Minnie Mouse, a CM approached us on our way out. He asked us if we'd be interested in being in the parade that afternoon! Just have LOTS of fun, and SMILE around those CM's!!!

WE were chosen to open the park at MK. We got there really early--we were actually the second car in the parking lot cause we had to buy our tickets and we had a really early PS for Cinderella breakfast. I swear we got picked because my daughter had on the cutest little white tennies with white tulle ribbons and she had matching ribbons in her hair--it made her stand out. Plus told the CM at the ticket booth that it was our first time ever and we had been saving up since our son was born 7 years ago -- sometimes I think that had something to do with it. Course I had no idea anybody "opened" the park and when the CM came up to me with her clipboard I was convinced it was because there was a problem with our PS at the castle. When I realized what it was, of course I had to cry! I have also heard that they generally pick families of four.

We were MK Grand Marshals on January 15, 2003. A day I will always remember!
And it was PURE luck.
We were on vacation and arrived at MK about a half hour after opening. We were taking our time, checking lanyards and chatting with CMs. Without knowing it, one CM was in charge of the parade.
Since we moved here we have kept our eyes open for this CM to thank him again. Never have seen him since.
You just have to be VERY Disney-fied, HAPPY, and speaking to the right CM at the right time.

We were picked to be the Grand Marshalls in the MGM parade while on our honeymoon. We went to Guest Relations to inquire about the Fantasmic dinner package and we had our bride and groom ears on. The CM asked if we were planning to be in the park for the 3:30 parade and we said yes. She asked if we would like to be the Grand Marshalls.....we were stunned!! It was an experience and such a wonderful memory We also got VIP tickets to the Fantasmic show that night.....
