What offences cause someone to be banned? Does VMK tell you why you are banned if you are? The other night DD tried to sign on but it said she was banned but the date was for a few days ago. She said she didn't do or say anything to get banned and it didn't make sense because the date was wrong. Could this have been a glitch? Did it happen to anyone else?

There are lots of reasons youcan get banned from VMk. They range from dictionary dancing , asking for or giving too much personal info, Talking about other websites, trying to scam or cheat people, being rude or mean to other players, and hacking or using scripting programs. ANything that goes against the VMK Values (listed on homepage somewhere) Is a bannable offense. The bans can range from a 2 hour ban up to 10 years. Also just to let you know that you are not always banned as soon as an offense is commited, you can get banned after they review chat or trade logs. Their has been problems in the past with people getting banned for minor offenses while others go unchecked, but it seems that VMK is TRYING to be a little better at how they enforce their rules

There's a lot of ban reasons. Breaking the VMK Values are the main reasons. Here's a link to the Values:

I've read a lot of posts about bans, and from what I've gathered your DD needs to use the contact us botton on the VMK homepage to ask about it. They will not discuss it with a parent, only with the player who's account was banned.

Good Luck!

Thanks! We don't even think (hope!) she is really banned because when she tried to sign on on 11/14 the message said you are banned on 11/11! She had no problems signing on on 11/11, 11/12, and 11/13!

One thing DD was doing that I warned her about was the mummy and baybe thing. I told her I didn't think VMK would approve of that. Would that cause someone to be banned?

Thank you! I'll pass this along to DD when she gets home. Even if this turns out to be a glitch or something its a good time to go over the rules again.

she could have had a 2 hour ban and did not try to log in during that time period.

I have never heard of a ban "glitch" although there has been several players banned when they should not have.

If my child received that message I would be finding out why they were banned to begin with.

Maybe someone who has been banned and contacted VMK and been reinstated to never banned status will post to give you some insight who to contact.

Oh, I'd like to give some examples of things that might get you banned:

"Turn on your message program." (Basically announcing, "Hey, I'm contacting you outside of VMK!")
Reason: Don't type anything that alerts VMK staff
that you're asking to instant message anyone.

"I live down the street from Disneyland (or Walt Disney World)".
Reason: This falls under sharing personal info. My entire room was sent a
warning alert because some silly girl said this. The alert said that while we
all want to share how close we live to the theme parks, it's not a safe thing
to do.

"Read what I said on the Dis boards (or VMK fan site, etc)."
Reason: Again, this is sharing personal info. If you mention that you
belong to a fan site or message board, VMK will ban you. This type of ban
also happened in one of my rooms, poor Wolf!

Don't say you belong to the Dis when you talk to people. I have "Dis" in
my signature. That is usually good enough to let people know that yes,
that IS me in VMK
.

I recently saw someone in Town Square dictionary dance a word by typing
words with caps and wrote (read caps) while doing it. She was getting
around the dictionary by spelling another word with each cap.
Her example was "resist" Ready Easy Sigh...etc.

Again, VMK Staff is not stupid. When they review a chat log, something
like that isn't giving out personal info, but if I were staff, I'd sent that player
a warning about not using caps to spell out other words. I know that if
the words were personal info or cursing, that player would get banned faster
than you can say "Jiminy Cricket".

Be smart. Read the VMK Values. If you don't violate the obvious reasons
for a ban, you should be ok.

It could be that she did something and it took them a few days to get around to reviewing it, like if she were to scam someone in a trade or something.

As far as I know, bay be and mummy are not bannable offences, VMK allows it, they just don't endorse it.

When DD gets home we will find out! We went to see Princess Wishes last night so she/I haven't had time to look into it yet. DD would never scam anyone or anything like that. She loves the game a lot and likes to make friends. I just hope she didn't "say" something she wasn't supposed to without knowing it! She recently has been posting here and I'm not sure if she knows that she shouldn't mention the Disboards.

I think its a gray area on the baybe/mummy thing, especially when playing "family" where boys and girls are involved. I do understand the kids enjoy these kind of pretend games, and I also think its perfectly normal to do so. The problem in VMK is that you have no idea who is on the other end in most cases and for this reason I don't allow my kids to do that. I would only make an exception if she were playing with another child who I actually know. Keep us posted on the ban status, and good luck getting the information.

I don't believe they ban for this, a while ago staff had "myth busters" and one of the things was that someone thought vmk was going to close if taken kept going, and they said no, it just gets annoying sometimes, or something along those lines. Hope you get some help, when I got banned for so called 10 years, the next day I got on and they sent me a message saying I was banned for a reason? (I had sent them a message about an unfair ban). It was really weird, sometimes they ban all the people in a room, which I often get worried aboy. Right when someone says something that they could be banned for in a room, I immediately change rooms. Well, good luck and I hope you're ok!

Well DD is banned until 11/21. It was for sharing personal info. VMK asked if we thought this was a fair ban and we clicked yes. Was that the right thing to do? DD didn't intentionally do anything wrong. There are 2 possibilities.....one night she said she had to go and the person who she was talking with asked her "why? Its only 7pm" DD answered "its 10pm here in new yo" She also told someone she learned something on the Dis. So I quess it could be either one of those.

I had her read over the VMK rules and we discussed the reasons behind them and internet safety. I just hope she doesn't lose all her stuff.

I would guess that the ban was for saying New Yo. I was in a room the other day and watched a girl disappear as soon as she said Oh ho Oh
