I JOINED DVC IN 03 AND WE LOVE IT. I HAVE A FRIEND WHO GOES TWICE A YEAR MOST OFTEN DURING PEAK SEASON, BUT WON'T JOIN DVC LAST YEAR AT XMAS THEY PAID MORE FOR A WEEK AT PORT ORLEANS THAN I PAID IN DUES AND DVC PAYMNET ALL YEAR AND WE WENT TWICE LAST YEAR. DURING ONE STAY WE HAD TWO :sunny: STUDIOS AT OKW. PLUS THE MEMBER PERKS. THEY SAY THEY DON'T KNOW IF THEY WILL GO NEXT YEAR. AND THEY ALWAYS GO TWICE. ANYONE KNOW HOW I CAN GET THEM TO JOIN?

easy...........take them once on a trip.............on your points.........like a long weekend...............that is what we are doing right now..............in Hawaii.

Actually, the best way IS to have them stay with you-preferably in a unit other than a studio. Just having a washer and dryer and a full kitchen available should work wonders...

I don't think you should try and persuade them. For lots of people, the thought of having to go to Disney every year is off putting. Many prefer hotels. I lean that way myself which is why we sometimes use our points to stay at hotels - yes I know it's not a good use of points but they're our points and that's how we choose to use them. I certainly don't want the hassle of renting them out.

My DH took ages to decide it was right to buy in, we don't want to go every year but we're happy to use them for a cheap second holiday now and again and also let our children use them when they want to. Everyone is different.

Well, we took friends of ours with us in a 2 bedroom villa for New Years 1999/2000, and it was their first trip to WDW. By the time they returned home, they were shopping for a resale at OKW, and had thier own points in less than 6 months. I agree that taking them on a trip in a 2 bedroom at OKW will do the trick!

:cheer2: :cheer2: Tie them to a chair and play the DVC video on a loop for 36 hours straight. :cheer2: :cheer2:

Then, introduce them, in person is preferable, to your DVC Guide! :wave2:

If they won't buy at that point, they are just not interested! As so many on this board have said "it's not for everyone". :confused3

Good Luck, this post will self-distruct in five seconds! :badpc:

It's hard to "convince" someone unless you know what their reservations are.

If they flat out just aren't interested, then there's not much you can do. If they like the idea, but not the large upfront costs, you might could introduce them to the resale market where you can get fewer points. You could also mention the ability to rent/trade/borrow/bank to either offset some of the yearly costs or to plan longer or bigger (larger rooms, more people, more rooms, etc) trips. Finally, numbers can do wonders. If they actually see the numbers of how DVC could breakdown over the years, it might catch their attention.

Sometimes people just don't realize how they could benefit from it. I mean if they are going twice a year... I'd find it hard to believe that they couldn't save unless they were staying at the cheapest hotels in the WDW area.

For their next trip, why don't you offer to rent them some of your points so they can actually stay at a DVC. Better yet... all of you could go. :teeth: Take a day to go around to some of the other DVC's and show them around. If that doesn't do it... nothing will.
