I did this analysis when I was considering purchasing. But not based on points - based on how many nights of room I would get based on when I would likely travel. I did it for the years I would be paying for my contract, then after when only paying for maintenance.
I compared it to the price of typical hotel rooms at Deluxe reports, which is what we had been doing.
I found that my initial contract got me about 10 days of stay, and was about break even while paying for the points BUT with the luxury of one bedroom space, with superior kitchens and bathrooms. After paying off the contract, I found the maintenance fees equal to about 4 nights of room, making the other 6 nights "free". That's what sold it for me.
We've since added points at two other resorts for more 11 month window flexibility.
