How do you feel about tripods?

I know it's a strange question but I've ALWAYS wanted to take some great night shots of the castle and Wishes but for the night vision on my camera I need a tripod. I just don't want to be that rude person taking up a lot of space for the tripod. Any views and opinons would be greatly appreciated.

I use a small tripod, put in on a trashcan. That way I'm not intrusive.

I saw a number of people using tripods after the fireworks taking pics. The crowds had mostly left and they were shooting away. Patience!!

nope, didn't move the trashcan at all. just placed it the tripod on it and kind of figured the positioning of the camera.

Hi Evilina...Bernard here,

if you want to take *good* night shots, fireworks shots, etc., some sort of stable camera support is an absolute must due to long exposure times. I always carry a mini-tripod which is handy and convenient as described in oogie's posts. My personal preference is the UltraPod II as it's small, light, and includes a handy strap for securing it to railings/branches/whatever's available. I also usually carry a monopod, and I pack a small C-clamp in my luggage along with some velcro straps to attach the clamp to the 'pod, which I can then secure to railings/benches/whatever. This setup works well, is fairly unobtrusive, and very flexible with a little planning & imagination. My planned modifications are to replace my monopod with a small carbon fiber tripod for additional flexibility -- remember that you can always just extend one leg of the tripod if you don't want to take up a bunch of room, but you can usually find a place where you can set up close to a railing and set your 'pod up just on the other side, so you're not taking up standing room. Finally, think about using a remote release to further reduce camera shake.

I'm not sure why anyone would have a problem with them. They're small - pocket-sized, I think - and they play such nice music. With the headphones / earbuds, no one else can hear - so go ahead a bring yours!

Just make sure you don't put your tripod on Push, the talking trashcan.
