How do you explain it to people?

How do you explain to friends & acquaintances that ask you why you keep going back to WDW? I had a conversation with several girlfriends the other night who asked and I couldn't put into a few words. Do you have any suggestions on a simple way to explain to people that think you’re crazy?

Yes...ask them this question..."If there were a place you could go where you knew you'd be happy, would you just go once...or would you o as often as you could"...I'm always happy in WDW, so I keep going back.

ITA Phyllis ! I know a family like that as well....

None of my co-workers... "Get it"....

But here's the best way I've learned to describe it...

Disney when I was early 20's vs. Disney with BF vs. Disney with DS2...DS4...DS6....DS8....DS10....DS12....DS14....DS16....and last visit with DS18....have all been

COMPLETELY DIFFERENT TRIPS !

From dining to rides to experiences to swimming to ...well everything....

There is still... after est. 19 visits... SO MUCH I have yet to do and see there... maybe one day I will have done/seen it all and can move on ....but until then... Disney here I come !

Hugs,
Mary

I know a couple who went for the first and only time (with no research) during Thanksgiving week with very young kids. They base their dislike of WDW on that ridiculously crowded week. They ate only CS and waited on lonnnggg lines and ultimately felt ripped off.

Of course they can't understand why we keep going back!

:sunny:

This example says alot!! Going during the busiest or hottest times of the year with little or no planning equals dissolving at least SOME of the magic. :sad2:

My best friend and her family are doing the exact same thing this year except they are going to MK only on the day after Thanksgiving. I told her I will help her come up with a touring plan but to go in understanding it is going to be packed. When I asked her how many parks they were doing she said, "we are staying in a condo in Orlando and doing 2 parks...Disney World and Sea World":confused3. She lives in TN and we are going to stay with them for a day on our way back to Ohio after our trip (we leave Friday:cool1:) so I am going to take her some park maps and give her a little Disney lesson, hehe. I really hope they don't leave thinking that is all that Disney is and that even with the crowds, they catch the Disney bug!

LOL - I have a good friend named Christine, her daughter Nora is 1 yr younger than my Becky and also adopted from China, and they are good friends. Christine is a teacher and can never go away during school time..her husband is a CPA and can never go away during presidents week..so Christine and Nora have always stayed home. They've never been to WDW. I guess I could have planned it for her and sent her on her way...but I so want to make sure they see "my" disney, that the 4 of us are going together over presidents week. That way I can plan our touring to avoid the worst of the crowds, make sure we have the ADR's we need to escape from the masses, optimize the FP system and make sure they get to do all the things I love! I would never usually go during such a busy week...I've warned them that it will be one of the more crowded times to go, but I hope with my experience, they'll be able to catch the magic!

I am not ashamed that I go to Disney 3-4 times a year even though I am a 42 year old husband whose wife also loves WDW. To each his own, but I say where else can you you see a 5 foot mouse walking around being treated like a rockstar.

I always tell them we are free there. No Army. No one calling DH for stupid stuff. My kids can be true kids. We are happy there. Once we are in those gates the outside world fades away.:cloud9: If you have never been then you can't judge us.

I tell them that Disney is like my second home. I feel comfortable and welcome there. And it makes me happy beyond all belief to really, truly feel like the rest of the real world doesn't exist while I'm there.
Oh yeah... and there's Mickey ice cream bars and Dole whips! :lovestruc

I don't.

Quite simply, I don't explain it. I simply say...we go for 16 days once every three years because we enjoy it, it's magical, it brings the family together in a way that no where else can.

If pressured further.... "I am sorry you just don't get the magic" and then I terminate the conversation.

I try to turn it back on them by finding where they like to go or what they like to do repeatedly.

If they ask how can we we go to WDW every year, how can we spend so much, doesn't it get old...I ask the same question about what they love. I somewhat politley explain to them why I have no desire to own a cabin "up north", snowmobiling or spend tons of money on a boat to speed around the lake for 3 months each year (these are the common things people do around here-cabining, boating & snowmobiling).

After that, they may not get what I love about Disney but it gets the point across that we all have different get aways that we can enjoy.

its funny and I think I like Disney so much b/c it really is an escape from all reality. When I am Disney I have NO CLUE what is going on in the world, and it is nice to feel that way for a whole week.

Also, we have crazy schedules, last year I was in school and student teaching and fiance was working 1pm-12am, so we really didn't see much of each other. This year DD is starting school and its more crazy scheduling, its the one week that we get to be together 24/7.

Also....no one could really handle DD's allergy like Disney does.

We went with my aunt, uncle and their 3 kiddos this year and my mom dad and sis. When I asked them (while we are @ WDW) if they were coming back again with us next year their reply was No. My aunt called me today and said she is going back again in August, are we coming :rolleyes1 lol OF COURSE WE ARE! She misses it and said you can't really beat the price, which is true. Where else could I get my meals, a room, park tickets, transportation, entertainment, pool time for a whole week for less than $2400? My parents also said "No More Disney" but I spoke with my mom tonight and she was going on allears to look at menus lol. So we'll see, I told them they have til December to figure it out.

And as another poster mentioned, I have been there several times and there's places I haven't dined at, resorts that I CAN'T WAIT to stay at (Poly and Beach Club lol). For example, just this year alone some new things I tried were Teppan Edo, Coral Reef, Rockin Rollercoaster, Kim Possible Missions, and can you believe I have been to Disney 7xs and this is the first time I've been on Space Mt?!?

I'm 21 and I LOVE Disney! It's such a bummer that I can't even share my excitement with certain people without getting replies like "Disney is for kids!" "Disney AGAIN?!" or "Man, that's lame."
I guess some people just don't understand the magic of Disney. :confused3

I tell them, "I don't smoke, I don't drink, I don't do drugs... a girl has to have at least one vice in life!"

I figured out how to word this last trip....

Some people have a place in the mountains they go to unwind, some people have a place on a lake where they go to get away from it all, some people go to a tropical island....I go to Disney World.

That is so sweet of you. I sometimes feel a little bad for a few kids (friends of my DD and DS ) who have never been to Disney. Their parents take them to Las Vegas or the Caribbeans but never Disney.

Wishing you a wonderful trip with lots of Disney magic!

Explaination- Our family has the most fun at Disney.. please, don't try to understand, please stay home, and stay out of the quene lines!!! LOL

What's worse is when your kids are grown (19 and 21), and your friends look at you like you're crazy to still be going to WDW. I just tell them that unless
they go there themselves, they wouldn't understand.

I just simply say, "We love it there!" No further explanation needed.

I will say that we went in '99 & '01 and enjoyed it but didn't fall in love with it. We waited five years to return in '06, adding another daughter to the mix during that time. That was the trip we were bitten by the WDW bug. Now I think I border on obsession, checking allears & Dis multiple times each day!

For us it's real simple...fun does not get old. DW and I went for a week in June, the whole family is going in November and I just booked June 2011! We make Disney a part of our budget each year. It's important for us to go...and we always have a great time!

on our first trip Dh and I had juuust moved in together. My dd was not quite 3 his was 9 or so. we had been having kind of a hard time blending our family. On the last night of the trip we were standing on Main street USA. DD3 was on dh's shoulders, dd9 was leaned up against me. DD3 looked down at me and said "look mommy, we are a family"

I kind of see Disney as the place where our family was born. So when people ask my why we go again and again? I tell them this story. They usually get it.

That is the same answer I give - if they have more questions I am more than happy to share
