I know this may sound crazy, but is there a particular way you eat your meal???

For me, I have to eat one item at a time until it is completely finished. I have to eat all of my mashed potatoes before I will eat my ham; then I have to eat all of my ham before I will eat my green beans. You get the picture!Q

My sister in law can't have her food touching. She will not eat at buffets because the food will touch on her plate. If she does eat at a buffet, she has 10 plates surronding her.

Just curious to see if anyone else has a quirk simular to these or one that I am unaware of!

My sister eats like you - has to eat all of her french fries before she'll even unwrap her burger.

Me - no particular order. Just a bite here & a bite there...

I am indiscriminate! My husband, however, eats all of one thing then the next. He has even been know (and teased ) for turning his plate as he goes from one to the other.::yes::

No order. Some of this, a bite of that.

I don't like when everything touches.

A little of everything. The title of this post made me laugh. My initial thought was "with a fork of course"! My mil used to tell me that she wished she could find china made like chinet divided dishes as I don't like foods to 'run'. I've gotten better but I hate to see others mix their foods together. My hubby does this with mashed potatoes and corn so I rarely make them for the same meal any more, lol.

I love fresh corn on the cob--but I MUST cut the corn off of the cob.

Habit started first as functional need and is now just habitual.

Prior to braces--I ended up with more corn getting stuck in my teeth and left on the cob than corn actually ingested. So would have the corn cut off of the cob.

During braces--obviously couldn't eat it off the cob.

After braces--I think I tried it once--but after about 15-20 years cutting the kernals off--it was just too weird.

My husband thinks I should just eat frozen corn--but nope--love fresh corn on the cob!!

As far as eating meals--if it is a really savory meal like a Thanksgiving dinner or really yummy restaurant meal--I will fork into different servings of food on my plate and eat them together. For the non-touching food eaters--this would be blasphemous :p

Im like you and your sister.
When I go to McDonalds, I eat all my fries, first some plain, then the rest with ketchup, then my burger. I have recently started to think the reason for this is I like to taste each thing and not just have one meal with 1 taste.
Also, I dont like my food touching. If its stuff that goes together I can handle it on the same plate...like pancakes & french toast at a breakfast buffet. However no way could I have my scrambled eggs on the same plate as my sweet stuff.
In fact on Thanksgiving I always get laughed at for needing 2 plates, one for my turkey, stuffing, and potoatoes, and one for my raviolis & sauce. Tomato sauce cannot go near turkey...Yuk! ;)
And as my tag used to say, I eat m&ms by color.

I also move my plate to each serving. I try not to have my food touch, but I understand if my gravy runs into my peas (don't like it, but I will eat it).

The one thing that my hubby does, that I can't stand is mix his food together. His comment to me, is it all goes to the same place, so why can't I eat it all together and save to trouble of mixing the food in my stomach?? Leave it to a man to cut out digestion in a meal!

Ok, I guess I am the odd one here. I mix my corn right into my mashed potatoes, take a fork full and than stab a piece of ham and eat it altogether. :hyper: Yum!

One thing at a time! I made a comment that I am surprised I can eat stir-fry, and my DH pointed out that I eat one veggie at a time.
I also eat my fries before I even upwrap my hambuger. If there are any fries left once I've started my sandwich DH knows they're far game.
I'm so glad to see I'm not the only one! I don't feel so crazy!

I also hate to have my food touching. I don't care what it does after I eat it, I want to taste each item individualy!! I'm glad to hear there are others of you like this. My family thinks I'm crazy!

I also don't like when things touch, and I'll try my hardest to ensure nothing does! I like to eat one thing at a time in general. Salad should be done before the main course. I like finishing the main course before eating all of the side dish (I can eat a little of the side dish but generally wait!) And I save my favorite part for last (thats usually the potatoes or green beans!)

:)

Its all going to the same place.

I don't care if anything touches. But I do like to eat desert DURING my dinner!

No method. Everything all at once too.

The only exception is cake: Must be cake first, frosting last!

My dh likes to eat all of one thing before going to the next. I tease him all the time about it.

I eat a little bite of everything. I don't like the food mixed on my plate but I'll take a couple bits of different things before chewing.

My oldest dd can't stand her food touching. She is also the one who can't stand spaghetti with marina sauce but likes it with either butter or cheese sauce.

Dh and oldest dd will also eat almost everything drenched in ranch.

First thing when I read the title was think "I just stuff it in"

This thread made me feel so good! I also eat one thing at a time and don't like food to touch eachother. Most people think that this is very weird and make lots of jokes. It's nice to come here and see that I am not alone. My DH likes to mix his food. Sometimes I can't even look at him when he is eating. We have two DDs. The oldest is like DH. The youngest is just like me. She even eats with a divided plate at home.

I once read that people who eat each item separately are very logical! Sounds good to me!

I cannot eat anything soggy. I get teased all the time because I will not put milk in my cereal. I will eat a bowl of cereal and have a glass of milk but they should never mix!

One thing at a time, until it's gone, then I move to something else. I also don't like my food to touch each other, especially if one has sauce or something and the other doesn't. Like if my green beans touch the applesauce, ewwww!

My DH makes fun of me and tells me my stomach doesn't have little compartments to keep the food separate.
