How do you dress up hot chocolate?

I’ve made homemade hot chocolate in the crock pot before... it’s basically a melted candy bar. It’s got heavy cream, sweetened condensed milk, whole milk, vanilla and chocolate chips. Sooo decadent, soooooooo unhealthy, sooo good.

Isn't that pretty much chocolate fondue?

Maybe the amount of whole milk changes it from fondue to hot chocolate? I think of fondue as thicker than hot chocolate, the crock pot recipe I used made the chocolate thin enough to drink. But probably the same ingredients and a similar taste to fondue!

Sometimes we add a bit of Bailey's and top it with whipped cream. Did so today while decorating the tree.

I've got some sweet marsala. Just tossed some in and it makes it pretty interesting.

DS21 and his girlfriend were home from their respectives colleges this week. They came home the other night with a bottle of Bailey's and a can of whipped cream to make hot chocolate. It was really good! We even added a few sprinkles on top to make it look pretty! He's about to take a red-eye back to school, so I made him a cup to warm up before leaving for the airport.

I dress up the stuff made from those packets by preparing them with milk (whole milk is best), putting a splash of vanilla coffee creamer in, and a dollop of whipped cream on top. My kids like to stir theirs with a candy cane for a minty flavor.

My son had a friend that used to make hot chocolate using vanilla ice cream. There are recipes online where you can either use melted ice cream to make it with, or you can have a hot chocolate float, where you put the blob of ice cream on top in place of whipped cream.

For those who like their hot chocolate cold, you can always try your hand at making Serendipity's Frozen Hot Chocolate, Oprah's favorite drink. There is a mix available on Amazon, or any number of knock-off recipes online, such as this one from Todd Wilbur's Top Secret Recipes.

milk, cocoa powder and sweetener for me. No embellishments.
DD likes a candy cane to stir with.

This is the only way we make it. But with soy milk. I don’t think I’ve had Swiss Miss or Carnation in at least 5 years.

Nestlé discontinued the Carnation name on hot cocoa years ago.

We get the Stephen's Hot Cocoa mix in several flavors (Amazon is our friend.) My favorites are raspberry, and peppermint -- basically crushed candy cane pieces in the mix. DH loves the Hazelnut. And the caramel flavor. and the chocolate mint.

I've seen spoon-shaped candy molds where you pour melted molding chocolate (candy melts from Michael's) into the mold, Stick it in the fridge/freezer a couple of minutes to harden it, unmold, and serve the spoons to stir as it melts into the chocolate.

Usually just whipped cream or marshmallow Fluff on top.
Here in MA that's the only way I grew up drinking hot chocolate: With Marshfmallow Fluff on top! So good! (Although I haven't had it that way in years since the Swiss Miss type packets came on scene. Growing up we used Nestle powder with milk or Hershey or Bosco syrup...)

I was looking online for a picture to post and I came an old Dis thread about this very thing - seems a lot of people have never heard of it since it's a regional item: https://www.disboards.com/threads/hot-chocolate-with-fluff.2570210/

I might have to make one and post my own picture! (I will later.)
