In my family, we've always dressed in formal wear for Christmas Eve and then wore casual and relaxing clothes for Christmas Day. A friend of mine said that's not how it's done. How do you dress?

I wasn't aware of the rules??? At my mom's everyone dresses nice for Christmas Eve because that's when we have our family get together....but since I live 600 miles away we usually wear jeans and sweatshirts both days (but we are out riding horses so formal wear wouldn't really be appropriate!! :rotfl: )

Jeans and a shirt... we never go formal . This year all the kids have matching snowmen sweaters (besides my 14yo lol) and are wearing jeans.

We do formal or Xmas eve (our dinner) and normal on Xmas day. However, I generally try to be practical while dressed up, as I generally wind up in some sort of bad for dress clothes situation with thr wee ones. :teeth:

That's not how what's done :confused3  ?

We dress nicely for church (DD7 in a Christmas dress and shiny shoes) and DH and I in something dressier than work clothes (we're business casual). Christmas day DD usually stays in her PJs and the rest of us are casual.

That was my thought. Who knew?

We're casual. Jeans/sweatshirt if we're leaving the house and jammies for most of the day on Christmas. It's usually just the three of us so we don't get all gussied up.

I havent decided - but my boys and my boyfriend are wearing this:

I didn't know that there were rules for Christmas clothing.

As long as my guests have their important parts covered that's all I care about. I definitely don't want any "uninvited guests" popping out for Christmas dinner.

On Christmas Eve, we have church services at 4, 6, 8 and 11 (choir family here), so we are dressed up. On Christmas day, my kids usually don't get out of their jammies. I typically wear something like jeans and a velour top.

Growing up we always dressed up on Christmas Eve because our extended family all got together. Now it is just my brothers family, my best friend and I so we are more casual. Christmas day is also pretty casual.

On both days wewear festive Christmas attire. Velvets, velours, reds, greens silver & golds. DS4.5 will have a sweater vest thing with long sleeve shirt, DD6 will have a "cheetah girl" dress (leopard print and the other is black velour with "cheetah" collar and wrists), I will be doing velvet slacks or gauchos w/ boots and DH is whatever the heck I tell him to wear. His family doesn't dress for ANYTHING. They have all since passed away, so now he has to dress (somewhat) for both days. This is his first year of no family. I willl go easy on the big guy. He can wear his cool jeans, dress shoes and a cool "blouse" (e hates when I call it that)

Well I can honestly say I have never worn formal wear on Christmas Eve or Christmas. We are usually pretty casual for both, but a nice casual.

We don't dress up. We do our big celebration on Christmas Eve and we usually just wear a Christmas sweater or sweatshirt. On Christmas day we will do the same. The only dressy holidays for us are Thanksgiving and Easter. Am I breaking the rules?

When I was growing up, on Christmas Eve we wore what ever the activities dictated. Some years we went to church, some we didn't. The funny thing about that was that we were usually there everytime the doors were open but my Mom regarded Christmas Eve as the services that people went to when they didn't go to church regularly and therefore not necessary for us, LOL. On Christmas day, we usually wore whatever new clothes we got as gifts providing it didn't need altering in some way. I was forever having to have my pants hemmed because they were too long. :goodvibes
I've never worn what I consider formal wear for either occasion. Are you all talking about tuxes and gowns or just your good Sunday type clothes?
I must admit, it sounds fun to get all gussied up and do something fancy!

We usually wear something dressier for Christmas Eve when my mother's family gets together, but it's still just slacks and a nice shirt instead of jeans.

I'm lucky if I get out of my pajamas on Christmas Day!
