How do you do that??

Hey guys! I may be asking a dumb question but I really am very interested in how you guys make these name pics and especially the sippy cup labels and t-shirt word art. Is there a certain program that has to be used or is it something I could learn to do at home?? I just want to learn to do it so I can make things for my ds and dh and maybe for my kiddos at school. Any advice??
