My husband and I went to a huge Christmas light display last night, and I noticed how few homes had outdoor decor up. Seemed like far fewer homes this year than last year, even on our road. I saw lots of Christmas trees indoors, but barely anything outside. On our way home, we drove through a neighborhood where someone had a light-up wreath shaped like a Minnie-head, complete with red bow. :teeth:

When my husband came home from work yesterday, he said he saw a tree out where he was working that was decorated with beer cans all over it.

So I was wondering - do you decorate your house for Christmas indoors only, or do you do some outdoor decorations, too? If you do an outdoor display, do you go all out or is it just a few lights here and there?

I voted indoor and outdoor. That said, we don't have exterior lights up yet. We'll get them up this weekend. We just outline the roof line, windows, and a few bushes.

If we get them up today, that'll be ten days before Christmas. We leave them lit the twelve days of Christmas and the day of Epiphany. I think having them up 23 days is plenty.

We put up all our indoor stuff last weekend.

We usually do a moderate amount of indoor and outdoor decorating- a tree and various Christmas-y knickknacks inside, mainly in the living room and dining room. Outside, we drape lights over the shrubs, hang a wreath, and frame the front door with lights.

That said, this year all we have up is a tabletop tree with a few ornaments and a wreath on the front door. We are going out of town for Christmas week, and we just finished putting down a new laminate floor downstairs, so I wasn't in the mood to re-arrange the rooms I just got back in order after more than a month of being torn up.

Next year I will get back in the groove of doing a lot more decorating.

DH is working away from home and I just haven't felt like it, so nothing this year, but normally we decorate inside and outside.

DW starts decorating indoors w/her Santas and the like. I usually get the tree up that weekend for her to decorate. While that's going on, I do the outside, but I alternate that. This year, I've got spots on the wreaths on the windows and porch, w/2 urns w/oversized ornaments, greenery and lights in them. Oh, and the lamp in the middle of the yard has it's candy cane sleeve on it.

Next year, we're planning on a candy land theme, so lights will be all over the place as well as a variety of props.

We go all out with Xmas decorations. Outdoors and indoors. Pretty much every room has decorations. We entertain a lot and like to make the house look festive. Lots of poinsettias as well.

We decorate indoors only, unless you count the three wreathes with red bows hanging outside the doors. :) And we do have a large star (metal, DH made it years ago at his Mom's request) that is decorated with all blue lights and then white ones on the 5 points. We have that atop our grain elevator (we live on a farm). His Mom wanted it, and it was lit every year for her. Then after she passed away (almost 13 years ago) we continued the tradition in her memory.

We used to put lights out on the railing of the deck, and on several bushes and up the porch light pole, etc. but the older we get the less we want to do that.

We have lights in the bay window, but indoors, and electric candles in the windows so people can see those, and our trees, from the road.

We usually do outdoor lights, but with the move this month, I just don't have the energy.

I just got the tree today.
It's sitting in the corner looking at me...wanting it's lights and preciouses....

Both.

My outdoor decoration is a huge Mickey wreath that hangs on the side of my house. We have a spot light on it. I have tapered columns out front and were decorate them plus have a big blow up Mickey at the front door on a huge porch. It is simple but pretty.

I have a perfect house for icicle lights across the front porch but DH is not interested in doing them and I'm not tackling that so it is not happening.

I've really cut back on my indoor decorations also. :)

We usually do both but we decided not to put up the outside icicle lights this year. I do put candles in every window and a lighted wreath on the front door. Its simple, but I like it that way.

Outside- lighted wreath for front door, lighted garland on porch rails, lights in bushes. Inside- one big tree and one table top tree, nativity set, centerpieces for kitchen and dining room table, Christmas countdown calendar in kitchen, stockings and garland on fireplace.

We do indoor and outdoor but haven't done much outdoors yet.

My son and I were planning on starting today but got swamped with other stuff like start of the major cleaning before the inlaws show up.

Don't know when they are arriving. They invited themselves for Christmas and then didn't tell my husband when they were coming or how long they are staying. Sigh.

In years past we have only decorated indoors because we didn't have extra money for outdoor decorations.

This year, though, we were able to buy some white LED lights at Costco and decorated the outside! I also hung inexpensive faux pine garland and attached cheap shatterproof Walmart ornaments to them and swagged them on our upstairs balcony and around the front door. I love it! :)

Outdoor:
Red sparkle bows on fence posts
Wreaths on all doors
Colored lights on 3 pine trees in front yard
Blow up Mickey/Minnie train car thing
Blow up Mickey holding a candy cane thing
Spotlight on front door to highlight wreath, which is quite sparkly this year

Indoor:
Disney tree in den
Regular tree in livingroom
Small doggie memory tree in diningroom window
Santa/snowman/reindeer/angel collection on mantle
Garland on stair railing
Various Christmas "tchotchkes" spread throughout the house
Christmas tablescloths, towels, other linens
Christmas centerpiece on diningroom table
Nativity set display

I go pretty big on Christmas.

Inside and out, we put icicle lights on the front and we have 4 reindeer (lighted) out front and 3 lighted trees. Inside we put up various decorations and our tree, this year we have a 4 ft tree, it's pretty cute with gifts all around it. lol
