How do you decide which pins to collect?

Do you pick a favorite character, ride or movie?
Do you collect everything you can get your hands on?
Some of both? ;)

I know I started pin collecting as an extension of my Eeyore collecting and now it has branched out to include some other favorite characters, Dumbo, Dopey, Sulley, Stitch, and my favorite ride Splash mountain.
Just wondering how everyone else picks what to collect :)

I started with collecting pins that were Walt related. Then added patriotic pins to the mix. I especially love pins with the USA flag. I try to stay within those 2 groups. I recently expanded for my DD who likes the Lilo & Stitch pins.

Lessee.. I collect Beauty & the Beast (favorite movie), the main babies (Mickey, Donald, etc), anything trains (not just Disney, for my DS)..

I've got some Lilo & Stitch pins and Monster's Inc pins for remembrance sake.. they were the 1st two movies my DS went to in the theater.. he loved both.

I've also got some patriotic pins, just because I like them and because my sister is a Captain in the army. :)

I started out collecting almost everything that was LE. Now, there are just too many pins!

So, I narrowed my collection to pins that have something to do with WDW - attractions, resorts and stores.

The only characters I collect are Figment and Cruella DeVil.

Well, if it was a pin and had something to do with Disney, we collected it. :teeth:

Now we've gotten a lot more selective. Lauri loves anything having to do with Dumbo, the dogs (particularly the Dalmatians and Lady & the Tramp), and Eeyore. I focus on the Ducks, Chip & Dale, and patriotic pins.

I am in the process of trying to thin my collection down, but I am not sure where to start.
I already limit my collection to only WDW pins. If they are from another park and are really cute I try for them only if they don't say the name of the other park on them, for example, the Tokyo I love USA pins and the DL Mickey parade set.
I want to try and cut down to Mickey pins. But when I do that do I get rid of all the sets with the other characters or keep them because they have Mickey in them.
I want to keep my park pins, my event maps, and my Le's from those events.
And I would love to have all the patriotic pins, and Figment pins.
The rest I am thinking about giving up. But how do I do that? Do I sell them on e-bay for some ridiculously inflated price? Do I offer them to people for cost? Or do I just put them in trade books.
Nat did cut down his collection, but I saw his trader books. Some of his traders are better than some of my keepers.
Oh forget it, I am going to keep all of them I think. lol Peggie

I started with any Walt pins since he is the MAN . Also collect DVC since that is HOME.Then we went on the cruise and well there is my big down fall. I love the Artist Choice cruise pins.YES it was me who bought the framed set at the auction. can't wait for it to arrive. I try to stay with those three but then my kids collect too Oldest collects Goofy Middle collect Donald and my daughter colllect most everything but like tink and monster inc. Oh yeah DH he collects also he is into Jiminey ansd Snow White . So we have limited our collection to just a few thousand pins Good luck Brenda

Katherine,

I started collecting the countdown to the millenium pins at the DS. Then I went down to the parks in Febuary of 2000 and picked up the pins for my favorite attractions(Pirates,Small World,Haunted Mansion..etc). We went down again in Sept of 2000, and I saw several of the Tokyo pins. I fell in love with the pins from Japan! I mostly collect Japan pins. I also collect Eeyore and Dumbo(gee...now who else collects Eeyore? ;) ). I also collect Figment and Stitch. I still pick up some pins from the attractions, and other LE's that I like. I'm a big fan of Robin Hood and The Fox and the Hound. I'm still a novice compared to some of the folks on here, but I'm proud of my Tokyo collection which has gotten quite extensive as of late.
