How do you decide how many points to buy?

Your DVC Guide should be able to give you guidance on this issue also. Our most excellent guide very patiently went thru our intended vacationing patterns and suggested a point level, then sucessfully defended that figure under questioning from DW the lawyer in the family (friendly questioning tho). PM me if you would like her name, bcs she was just great; totally straightforward and low pressure.

Of course after family discovered that they might be able to join us, or piggyback on our membership, we have needed to add-on. And since we have discovered VB, we flirt with the idea of adding on there as well.

I also agree with the theory of buying several smaller contracts, maybe 150-200 to start with then another 100-150 later (after kids get older or family decide they want ot join you.
;)

I advise to spend what you can afford. You can add later on if you find you want more points. Resale is cheaper, but financing is on your own. SSR will give you a longer contract, easier financing, guaranteed no closing costs.

If I were you and could afford it, I would buy 150 points at SSR. Get it paid for and then later buy a resale at one of the other resorts with a 2042 end date.

Your desire for points may be lower now, higher with kids, and lower once the kids are grown. Buying multiple contracts gives you flexibility of adjusting your ownership as family desires and circumstances change.

We are in the process of buying 190 pts. at OKW. We did the different senerios just like you and others. You can go crazy do them. We finally decided to buy a few more than we thought we would need and if we need more then we will buy more. I don't think there is a formula, just a best guess for each family to make based on their desires...smj

Thank you so much for all the responces! This has been a big help. I'll print it out and keep it, also will show it to BF.

I'd love to buy 250 or even 300, but that's as much as a new (and rather nice) car. So, perhaps we'll start out with 200 or so, and take it from there. I'd love to do a re-sale and save a little more, but we'll see!

Thanks again, everyone!
