Someone gave us 50lbs of frozen spare-ribs and I have no idea how to cook them. I doubt I'll cook them all at once! We have a grill, but I've heard you should boil them first. Any suggestions?

We put a rub on them, bake them on low heat for a couple hours in a beer bath, and then grill them for about 10 minutes or so with some bbq sauce. The key is low heat, long time.

I do baby back ribs in the oven. Not sure what type you have.

I sprinkle them with Emmeril's seasoning and some minced dried onion put in large baking pan and add little bit of water (can use apple juice/beer/any type stock) wrap tight in foil and put in the oven on 250-275 for 2-3 hours then I unwrap it, drain off the liquid and coat liberally with any BBQ sauce. Put back in oven for another 1-2 hours until tender. Basting with sauce every so often.

If you want to, you can throw them on the grill after that, but we never do.

We have been making them this way for years!! Everyone loves them!!

Make a large envelope out of heavy duty foil.
cut ribs apart and place in envelope
pour in 1/2 to 2/3 bottle of pina colada mix and 1/4 cup rum. (don't worry the alcohol steams off!!)

Place this on the grill for 45 minutes to steam the ribs.

while steaming mix any kindof BBQ sauce that you like with remainder of pina colada mix and dash of seasame oil.

when ribs are steamed brush with BBQ sauce mixture and grill for about 5 minutes (just enough to burn the sugar)

eat and enjoy!!!

we make these at least once a week during the summer!! My family loves them!!

you can also roll the ribs in toasted coconut if you like but noone in my family will eat them that way except me:confused:

let me know if you have any questions!!:yay:

2 things to remember:

Low and slow.

Keep your heat low, somwhere are 200-225 and your time. It's going to take some time to get them done.

Check www.thesmokering.com. You should be able to find some very good info on there to cook them.

I do our baby backs this way: (I saw this on Oprah years ago but I modified it)

Put the ribs on a rack in a large pan. Add a little water (or juice, or ?? This was one of my changes to the Oprah recipe, hers had no liquid added.)

Dry rub on seasonings.-Salt and Pepper, garlic salt, Greek Seasoning, or anything else you like)

Completely cover with foil. Make sure it's all sealed up. Put in oven (I do it at 325 usually) Cook for 3 hours. Check to see if they are done. If they are remove the foil and then I do one of two things:

Leave the ribs in the oven, turn up the heat to 350, apply BBQ sauce ( I like Sweet Baby Rays) and cook for another 15 minutes or so. Since the ribs are already tender I don't need to cook them any longer, just brown the sauce a bit.

Or take them out of the oven and put them on the BBQ. Sauce both sides. Watch carefully as you don't want to burn the sauce. Also, since the ribs are so tender they can fall apart before you put them on the grill. If I'm going to grill them I cut them in smaller sections, like 4-5 bones each. Easier to handle. :goodvibes

We are actually having baby backs tonight. I just prepped the ribs (pulled off the membrane, applied seasonings) and they are waiting in the fridge to go in the oven about 3 p.m. We plan on eating about 6-6:30.

This method is no fail and is super easy to do. Even though you are doing larger ribs, the procedure should be the same. Cooking time will probably be longer and you may want to drop the temp a little as well.

First I rub the ribs with dry BBQ seasoning (McCormick, I believe). Then I sear them quickly on the grill (3 min. per side). Then I put them into a roasting pan and pour 1 bottle of our favorite BBQ sauce, mixed with one cup of beer, over the ribs, cover tightly with foil, and cook in the oven at 300 for 3-4 hours. Perfect!:thumbsup2

I do it exactly the same way, they are wonderful!!!!

We put the ribs in foil & cook them on the grill. Before closing the foil, we season the ribs with seasoning (Montreal seasoning, Lawry's - whatever sounds good), and place several ice cubes along the ribs - every 2 inches or so. We seal the foil, and then flip them over & wrap in another foil layer. Cook them on the grill slowly. When they are done, unwrap them and cook on the grill - with BBQ sauce if desired.

Enjoy!

1/2 C Brown Sugar
1/4 C Paprika
1 T Chili Powder
1 t Cayenne (red) pepper
1 T Onion Powder
1 T Garlic Powder
1/2 t Black Pepper

Combine the ingredients and store in an airtight container.

Rub the ribs liberally with seasoning and seal up in foil. Put in the refrigerator for 1-2 hours. Take out and leave out for 30 min.

Put in the oven at 250 degrees for at least three hours.

Take out of the oven and let them rest for about 10 minutes while you heat up the grill.

Baste them with your favorite barbecue sauce on the grill about 3-5 minutes each side, just enough to carmelize the sauce

Enjoy -- Spare ribs - Kansas City Style!

DH made the honest to goodness die for ribs last week.

He cooked them in the oven. BUT used barbecue sauce mixed w/ 1 can of root beer and some orange juice. IT sounds awful but they were beyond good!! We managed to eat almost all 3 racks in 1 day!!

good luck!

If you have back ribs, you can remove the fatty membrane and cut them into 2 or 3 rib portions before you parboil them to get the extra fat off. You can then move them to the barbecue, hot pot, or oven to finish cooking. I usually oven roast them at a low heat for a long time, adding barbecue sauce for about the last hour or 45 min.
I serve them with rice, using the extra barbecue sauce on the rice. Good with a green salad with fresh orange slices, and an oil and vinegar dressing. My mom used to serve baked parsnips with spareribs--she baked them with the ribs, so the parsnips caramelize in the fat from the meat--take the parsnips out of the pan before you add the barbecue sauce to the ribs.

We cut our into 6-8 rib sections and par boil them for about 20 mins. Then we cool them and dh wraps them in saran wrap and pops them in fridge. When time to serve he finishes them on the grill and sauces at the end.

Okay, so the ribs last night were delicious as always.:goodvibes Cooked them about 2-3/4 hours at 325. Took them out of the oven, applied BBQ sauce to both sides and but on the grill, on low, with the lid down. Let the sauce caramelize for about 5 min. per side.

The meat was very tender! So yummy and so, so, easy!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I did cut the ribs into 4-5 bone sections and removed the membrane on the inside of the ribs.

I rub them down with spicey brown mustard, cover them in KC MASTERPIECE dry BBQ rub mixed with equel parts brown sugar and preheat all burners on my gas grill on High for about 15 minutes then I turn off my inside 2 burners and leave the 2 outside burners on my grill on and add my ribs to the middle burners leaving the others on so they get indirect heat, they usually take about 3-4 hours but they are delish.
