How do you clean an iron?

One of the kids burnt something onto my iron and I can't seem to get it off. It is leaving black marks on some of my clothes. Can you clean this off of an iron? Do I need to buy a new iron? Any help would be greatly appreicated.

My mom uses wax to clean it.

Buy a roll of waxpaper and run the iron over it several times. this has always worked for us.

There's a little product you can buy that you can use to clean it with. I don't know the exact name, but I know it says "iron cleaner" on it and it is usually sold next to the irons or where you buy spray starch.

What is the sole plate made out of. Mine is stainless steel and if something burns on there I can use a nylon scrubbie (an old panty hose would work fine) and a little soap and water. Cleans it right off.

If I owned an iron that is what I would do- we don't iron things here so no need for one. If I wanted something pressed I would drop it off at the dry cleaner and they press it nice and hang it up and I pick it up there LOL.

joanne Fabrics sells iron plate cleaner. Works like a charm.
I think I have also bought it at Target.

I am with you What's a iron? I thought that's why they invent the dryer for.

That happened to me once. I tried:

1. Ironing it off onto a towel.

2. Cleaning it with various cleaning products.

3. Purchasing a new iron.

The option that worked best was #3.
