How do you cancel a res so you don't get charged if the site is down?

Hi everyone,

As we all probably know, the dining reservation booking site is down today. When I called, I was told it would be up by 10 am. I forgot to ask what time zone the CM was talking about, but it's past 10 on the east coast and it's still down. :confused3

So I will be at WDW next week. And I can't help but think: if I have a reservation guaranteed with a credit card, how would I cancel it if the site is down? How would I avoid being charged?

My experience with all of Disney's "maintenance" of their web sites, is that it always takes longer than they say it will, and they always need to take it down again shortly after they took it down the first time, to fix whatever they screwed up the first time!

Thanks for any help for anyone who knows how these things get handled.

You can always call the dining line. There is a specific number for cancellations.

(407) WDW-CNCL or (407) 939-2625

Thanks but no, that doesn't work. I called them and they cannot access reservations to make cancellations either.

Does anyone know what they do in this circumstance?

Stop by one of the lobby concierge desks in any of the resorts.

If you've done this, you've made a good faith effort to cancel according to the "rules of the game". The failure to cancel now lies with WDW, not with you.

If all else fails, you have grounds to have any charges reversed. Keep a note of when you called, and the system was down, and contact the billing dept to have any charges reversed.
