How do you buy makeups from drug store?

This question is a little silly but definitely budget related.

I used to wear makeup everyday and at that time I always bought at department stores where I could try a tester to see if I like it or not before my purchase.

I am not wearing makeups on a daily base anymore and my last batch of lipsticks/eye shadows/foundations have just expired. I still want to have some makeups on hand for special occassions and I think to buy at a drugstore makes most budget sense.

I went to CVS over the weekend and they don't have testers for me to try. They show you the color on the display palette, but I can't be sure unless I applly it on my skin.

So, how to I do this? Do I have to make a purchase based on the palette alone? May I ask the store assistant for tester?

Can I return makeup if I don't like the color? -- I don't like this idea at all.

I really feel silly, but please help me out. Thank you!

Drugstores don't have testers available, so you do have to take a wild guess on the correct shade you will need. I believe some stores will allow you to return/exchange for a different shade, but you would need to inquire first to be sure. It will help if you already know if your skin has cool, warm, or neutral undertones.

Yes, you can return makeup at CVS if you don't like the color. They do not have testers.

If you have an Ulta store near you, they have testers of their store brand makeup. I have not tried their foundation, but I like their eye shadows and blush OK. I believe they are on sale right now, too.

i have found that walgreens, cvs, and ulta will take opened makeup for a full return... i usually state (and its true) that i didnt care for the shade/ or the makeup.

Thank you all for the reply.

I think I'll try CVS again and ask the staff about the return policy beofre my purchase. There is a ULTA nearby, I probably will give it a try as well.

Hi, twice a year cvs walgreens has sales on some makeup items 50-75 % off i take advantage of that sale and stock up . i like drugstore makeup. i hope this helps .:thumbsup2

I bought three foundations for 75% off at CVS this weekend. One of them was my favorite, Revlon Age Perfect. Honestly, it's close to a carbon copy of the Clinique I wore for about 20 years. I usually put coupons/extra bucks deals together to get my make-up, but I couldn't pass up $3.49 each.

And there are always coupons in the paper too for makeup, like Revlon, Almay, Maybelline etc.

I use L'Oreal True Match. They have a card hanger that you place up to the inside of your wrist. When you find a dot that "disappears" then you know that is the color to get. I've always found the perfect color this way. Not sure if you would like the actual product coverage, etc. but for color matching I've found it to be spot on.

I know Rite Aid also returns makeup, no questions asked.
