DD14 had to do a project for church making a slide show of pictures. She successfully burnt a CD that plays on a computer but won't play in a DVD. I know our family is hopelessly tech challenged but burning a DVD should be easy too, shouldn't it? How in the world do you do that?????

I have to preface this by saying I'm not the most computer literate...

You need to have a DVD writer to burn to a DVD. Not just a CD writer. And you need to use an actual writable DVD.

Then, (and this is where I am not quite sure) I believe when you burn it, there is something you need to do to indicate whether it will work on an actual DVD player connected to a TV vs. the DVD player that is part of your computer. I think it has something to do with the file types. I know DH has burned them both ways, but the files for playing on a TV DVD player are much larger than the files used for just playing on the computer.

HTH!

First off, just because you can burn a CD does not mean your computer can burn a DvD. It takes a "better" burner to do both.

Assuming you do have an actual DvD burner, you then need the correct DvD's to burn. NOT CD's

So if you are using your CDs to burn a DvD, it won't work

So start with that.. be sure you have a DvD burner and DvD, not CD's to burn.

If you have both and still no luck, post the error message you are getting, what software you are using and system info

Ok, I guess I probably don't have a DVD burner. Dang it. I used the DVD RW disc first and then CD RW. Ok, have to think of something else.

DVD players will usually play cd's as well. You need to use software when you burn it to make it play in a dvd player. I would try googling what you want. I know a program call Nero will do what you want but it is not cheap.

If you used Windows Movie Maker, you can't burn it to a DVD to play on a DVD player, trust me, I know. You need to get a program that will allow you to do this and also have a DVD burner on that computer.

If you can find someone with a dvd writer, the software I use is proshow which you can download online. It's not free but it was not that bad, I have the gold version and I think that was like $60 and they have a cheaper version than that. They definitely work on dvd players hooked up to tv's, we use them at the zoo and I burn them for my family.

Does your church have a projector? Because you could play it on a laptop, hook the laptop up to a projector, and voila!
