I have read about this buffet, but am not sure what exactly it is or how to book it. Can anyone give me some insight?

You can call 714-781-4400 30 days before you desired date. There is balcony seating with a dessert buffet and unlimited drinks. There are only 21 seats, so the balcony sells out fast. There are an additional 50 seats (I think that's how many) that are riverside, slightly off center but still a great view. With these seats you get a box of desserts and 1 drink. This is a change from when I've done it. I've always sat riverside and had the buffet and unlimited drinks, but apparently they've changed that recently. I believe the current price is $49.75 for either option.

Whether it is 'worth it' or not is entirely up to you. I love the fact that I don't have to camp out a spot 2 hours ahead of showtime. I just show up 45 minutes prior, get my seat and a few snacks. Also, if you attend the first show, you will have a great sit down view of the fireworks soon after.

I was at the riverside seating in August, and they had the dessert buffet there, as well as your choice of coffee, soft drinks, or hot chocolate. You get the dessert and the CMs serve you the drinks until Fantasmic starts. If you see the first show, you can stay for the fireworks (provided they have them), and get more drinks/snacks at that time. The riverside seating is $10 less for children ages 3-9.

You must reserve this on your credit card. You pick up the tickets at Guest Services, located to the left of the Disneyland park entrance - no later than 7:30pm. (I wouldn't wait for the afternoon to get these tickets - I'd get them as soon as I got to the park)

Balcony seating is set in the order you make your reservation. Riverside seating is first-come/first seating - however, they take names about an hour before the show starts, so the guests who check in first get the best seats first.

Anyone know about what time Fantasmic is? Is it at sunset?
Wondering if we should book or if our son will be asleep by the time it starts!

Normally the first one is at around 9:00 then they have fireworks then there is a second fantasmic at 10:30. Sometimes they only have one show or no fireworks in between depending upon how busy a season it is. You book exactly 30 days out. Note to those trying for the balcony: If you get the second row and have small children don't despair! We have had first and second row and while the first is nice the kids can stand or get on their knees on their chairs in the second row. You still have a great view!
