How do you become a moderator

I was wondering how you become a moderator on these boards and what moderators do exactly (I'm assuming it's more than reading everybody's posts and threads).

Moderators are choosen and invited to join the team by our Owner Pete and his team of Webmasters. I am not a Webmaster but know they look for several different things in the research and decision of asking a poster to come on board as a volunteer member of the team. Some of these include expertise on subjects, posting history on the site and specific indvidual boards ect....

I am going to move this over to the Community Board.
