How do you *avoid* getting sick?

Normally, not an issue, right?

Well, with my work and school projects both reaching a major point this week, I've been getting very little sleep the past couple of nights -- since Friday, actually. Right now, I'm running on caffiene and adrenaline, otherwise I'd be out cold I'm so tired. That always makes me very susceptible to colds and such.

Naturally, my roommate was in today with a cold (cold, flu, virus, whatever...she's sick). :( She was out both Friday and yesterday so she's been sick at least 48 hours (I know she mentioned trying some OTC medication Sunday, so know she's at least had it that long). I only had about an hour and a half in the same room with her before I left to go to the university for a meeting, and she had left for the day before I got back.

I can't afford to get sick right now. Any suggestions on how to ward off those cold bugs? Besides going to bed early tonight, which is the first night since Thursday that I'll be able to.

My DM always tells me to keep washing my hands constantly. I do that, and I barely ever get sick. Then just go to bed a bit earlier if your tired. Good luck at not getting sick!

Get some rest. Wash your hands a LOT. Take echinacea to help boost your immune system. If you start feeling the slightest twinge of a cold start using Zicam nasal gel or swabs.

Hope you stay healthy! :)

When I read the title of your post, my immediate thought was to get enough rest. But since it sounds like that's going to be a bit hard for you right now, you need to do other things to boost your immune system. Healthy food, especially foods with Vitamin C, is good. Drink lots and lots of water. Exercise is good. Washing hands is always an excellent idea. It's probably also good to stay away from caffiene. Your body is already pushing itself. You don't need anything to raise your blood pressure and make it work harder.

Wash your hands! :) (I know it's been said before, but it is very true! Best way to prevent illness!)

Thanks everyone. :) Tonight is actually a night I *can* go to bed early so as long as I can fall asleep, that's what I'm doing tonight. Time to pull out the vitamin C and stuff. Thanks again for the suggestions. :)

Also, try not to touch your face or eat finger foods when you feel you're at risk.

Or you can take a cue from Michael Jackson and wear a mask and gloves.

Echinacea! I rarely get colds because I take enhinacea at 4 week intervals throughout the year.

I take Omega3 fish oils, not so much for my cardiovascular system but for my immune system.

No. 2, wash your hands often and NEVER touch a public restroom door handle on your way out (use a tissue or paper towel to grasp it).

No. 3, use your own pen to sign credit card receipts. I hate using the store pen and passing it back and forth between myself and the clerk and on and on....
