How do workplace rumors like this get started?

A girl I'm pretty close with says to me last night, "so, is it true what I heard about you?"

At first I was afraid to respond...but then I had a feeling I knew what she was referring to.

I said "yes it is, but what exactly did you hear?"

And she said, "that you turned in your 2 week notice!"

I just about fell on the floor laughing at that one...because it is the farthest from the truth! I asked her who typed it and handed it in to the director for me, LOL!?

I should've posted a sign on the locker room that said "Contrary to the rumor mill, I HAVE NOT turned in my resignation!"

(but I plan to by the end of December!)

I thought she meant that she knew I was considering another position within the same place, not that I had already resigned!

Are they selling the property and moving? Where are they moving to?

This is yet another thing I'll be relieved to get away from--workplace gossip and rumors. I guess I'll be hearing the over-the-back-fence neighborhood stuff instead.

Talk about over-the-fence-gossip.....our first house was in an old part of town with mostly older folks as neighbors and, bless their hearts, they were the worst!! I never knew whether it was truth or old-age (no offense to the more life-experienced DIS-ers here!). One even had a police scanner and she'd tune it so that she could actually hear cordless phone conversations!!!!
