There is so much info and pictures on the disney resorts its easy to get excited. Its harder to find info on the uUniversal resorts and the dining. How do Universal resorts compare are they as nice. We are staying at the hrh cl before we head over to the polynesian.

I find the Universal hotels on par or better than the Disney deluxe hotels. I find all the Universal hotels to be superior to the Poly, WL and AKL.

I agree. Even the least expensive Universal resort (RPR) is comparable to the Deluxe resorts at Disney. I think RP is a lot like the Poly - maybe nicer and definitely newer.

I've stayed at Disney for numerous year (value, mod, & deluxe). Then a few years ago, we tried Universal's Royal Pacific and then Hard Rock (CL). I feel the Universal hotels are a little better than Disney's. Funny because 2 yrs ago we did a split trip. We stayed at Hard Rock for 5 nights and then headed over to Disney. My teen dd said when we walked into our room at Dis, "Gee, we should've stayed at Disney first because this just doesn't compare." That's coming from a family that does love Disney, but we LOVE Universal too.:thumbsup2

I can only compare two hotels but I thought the HRH was soooooo much better than the Contemporary. The only thing we were missing at HRH was the balcony and the magic kingdom view. The room was smaller, but not a huge deal at all. Now, when we stayed at Contemporary, the pool was being rehabbed so maybe it's nicer now, but I doubt it. I really loved hanging out at the HR pool and having the pool service. Just way better amenities at HR over Contemp. Plus the walking distance can not be beat! Oh and the restaurants were superb at HRH as well. The Contempo Cafe at Contemporary is a joke and Disney should be ashamed of it.

I have never stayed in a Disney resort. We normally stay at RPR and drive to Disney each day. I enjoy visiting Disney and coming home (RPR) every night.:thumbsup2

+1

Better and cheaper. Can't beat that. Portifino is your best bet if you want to splurge. Its the best IMO, RP is next and is the best bargain. Its an excellent resort despite the fact that its the cheapest. P is probably the most luxurious.

Much better service. Loews actually knows how to run a hotel, unlike Disney.

JMO - I don't think the hotels are necessarily better than the Disney ones, but I do think they are a much better value for the $. We stayed HRH Club Level and I felt that it was $ well spent. Even though I have stayed deluxe at Disney, I generally can't justify the price for what you get. I far prefer the values and mods where I feel I get what I pay for. If the Disney deluxes were priced similar to the Universal hotels, then I would have a much harder time comparing and would probably give the edge to Disney. :goodvibes

Lets just put it this way....I have no problems staying offsite when visiting Disney, but I will never stay off-site again when visiting Universal. The hotel proximity is amazing, the staff awesome, and the rooms beautiful. All the hotels are great. No comparison IMO.

I have stayed at all 3 UO resorts..and loved each one...rooms are smaller than your typical Disney deluxe(well at least POLY/Contemp/GF)...the advantage is the FOL access that u get while staying there, and the fact that they are so close to the parks...all within easy walking distance.....

Just came back from HRH and I thought it was way better than any Disney Hotel I have ever been to. The service was excellent! Both kids loved that you could hear the music under the water in the pool!

We have stayed at many of the Disney properties and at Royal Pacific and Portofino Bay. I would say that the Universal Hotels are a step above the Disney Moderates and on par with the Deluxe Resorts.

Dollar for dollar, the Universal hotels beat Disney in almost every way. I think the only category where Disney wins would be "immersion" -- when you stay at a Disney hotel, you're literally surrounded by Disney. Other than that, Universal all the way -- and the Express Pass seals the deal.

Disney use their brand names to sell their hotel rooms, whereas Universal/Loews actually have to work for their receipts. Which of course gives its visitors a better sense of value for money, no matter how small the effort is from Universal, you can be sure it will be more than you get pound-for-pound at Disney.

And as has been stated before, the unlimited UE for both parks seals the deal.
