We took the stray cat we found to be spayed. They asked how old she was and I said 4 or 5 months. They felt around her butt area and said 7 months. How can they tell? Thanks.

One way is to check the teeth for their growth/development. Some vets also check development of urinary and reproductive organs, especially in very young cats. We got a cat from the pound that they thought was 5; the vet checked her teeth and said she was 8 or 9.

With out providing too much info for the DIS--they could have been checking her areas as well as her overall size as a cat to determine her age.

I always thought it was by looking at the teeth and eyes and general body condition.

Cut it open and count the rings.

;)

Sorry to all the cat lovers, I couldn't resist.

I'm a cat lover, but sadly I did *snicker* at this one.

No they were checking the back half of her body. The technician put her hand in the cage and then announced she was 7 months.
