How do they get the salt to stay on the rim?

Hi!
We are wondering how WDW gets the salt to stay on the rim of plasicware when serving Margaritas, like in Epcot at Mexico, and at the pool bars. Disney is the only place I have seen this done successfully.

We are planning a party for next weekend and are having trouble coming up with the solution to this problem. On glass, we just rub the rim with the lime, and it sticks, but this does not work with plastic. Does anyone have any inside information? Is it a special combination of ingredients? :confused3

I was a bartender for many years and never had trouble with the salt sticking to plastic... are you using the special margarita salt? It may stick better than regular table salt.

I dip the rim of the glass in lime juice that is on a saucer and do the same in the margaritta salt. It dries and the lime juice give it a little kick!

Yes you can dip it in lime juice or just water to make it sticck on there. Make sure the salt is not in big chunks or it won't stick you may want to beat it in a zip lock bag to make it a little finer.

We usually use Kosher Salt. It is rather chunky. Did you prepare the rim in any way before dipping? The salt at Disney seems to have an odd taste, not that I don't like it. I love it! Maybe they do prepare it first with lime juice to get the salt to tase that way?

Thank you all for your suggestions, I have been looking on Google and Yahoo, and mostly the people are saying that salt doesn't stick to plastic no matter what. Now, all of us Disney Margarita Addicts know that not to be true! One person said they have found that Rose's Lime Juice works, but not the sliced lime around the rim like we usually do. I am open to any more suggestions anyone may wish to share! Thanks to you all! :disrocks:

Get a bottle or Rose's Lime juice from your local liquor store.

Place some in a dish and dip the rim of the glass in the juice.

Place kosher salt in another dish and dip the rim in the salt now.

Let this dry for about 15 minutes before pouring the drink into the cup.

ENJOY!

We squirt a little bit of the honey from a squeeze bear onto a saucer and dip the rims of the glasses inthat before we dip it in salt ...works everytime

As an avid margarita drinker and martini drinker, getting the rimmed sugared or salted has become my specialty. Water does not work. I always pour a little of the mixer in a dish and dip them rim of the glass in it. Something about the weight and sugar content of the mixer makes it work great!
Good luck! :cool1:

That's what we do. You can also buy Rose's lime juice in grocery stores. Roses's has sugar added to it I believe. That may be why it works better than regular lime juice.

You can also buy Margarita salt in grocery stores. It may work slightly better than kosher or sea salt.

I'm thirding the Rose's Lime Juice suggestion. I worked behind bars for years and that's what we always used, never regular lime juice.

Many of the "margarita" salts that you can buy have a special lid that you can flip and pour the salt into... then you can flip your cup upside down and spin it in a circle in the salt. Maybe let it sit upside down for a few minutes in the salt until it dries. Rose's lime juice is a good suggestion, although I have always used a regular lime cut a slit it in and twirled it around the rim of the cup. :thumbsup2
