How do they decide where you work?

So how do they decide your location? (If anyone from past CPs know)
Is it just like a random computer generated/assigning type deal
or do they wait until after you check in and have met you.
(I know a factor is where your role has positions opened)
Just curious

College Recruiting assigns participants to areas based on the labour needs of each area, as determined by Area Management, Labor Operations, Casting Services and a whole bunch of other groups. They may also take your expressed preferences into account.

I believe this is done shortly before you check in.

However, once they assign you to an area, Area Leadership is responsible for determining what exactly you will do.

For example, College Recruiting may assign you to Tomorrowland Attractions at the Magic Kingdom Park because they have an opening there and you expressed a preference for working on Space Mountain. However, Tomorrowland Attractions Area Leadership might decide to put you over at Buzz Complex (which, memory serve me right, comprises Buzz, Stitch, TTA, CoP, and Astro) because they need an extra Cast Member over there.

To add to that... the support recruiters will review the notes from your interview in order to decide your role so it's not really completely out of left field. Of course the most needed LOB (line of business) is Food, so I heard that about a third of the CPers will end up in food.

You will be placed within your "area" shortly after you pay your acceptance fee and then that's based on what is open at the time you pay your fee (College Recruiting told me that).

As the PP mentioned, you will get your specific assigned about one to two weeks before you check in and that is done by the LOB, not by the CP.

I got to look at the interview computer program that recruiting uses during my tour and it's pretty extensive. The interviewer will make a recommendation but it's the support recruiter who will actually place you. There are all kinds of things they use to make their decisions...

for example, do you speak well? If so, it'll be indicating that you'd be good in a spieling role... etc. It's obviously not questions they ask, they are just making those judgements during the interview.

that is really interesting to know about "how you speak" factoring into spieling.
I told my recuitor I didn't want a high spieling role. huge public speaking fear to the point my face and neck flame up red in a rash, which sucks because JC would be awesome.

I'm so glad that they are using the interview notes/recommendations. I know my recruiter asked me which rides I would feel most comfortable using and said that I would probably work best with a speaking/monologue role since I am a theatre major.

This makes me feel a little better as well. Although I know anything can happen but I got Main Entrance Operations but had Vacation Planner as my top choice and wanted to do something like that so I'm hoping I get placed at a water park selling tickets or at the main gates welcoming people and doing parade control based on the questions I was asked. I'm a broadcasting and communications major so I'm hoping to be doing more then parking cars haha but I guess there's no guarantee at least I'll be at disney!

I stressed high-speiling, so I really hope I can get JC (or GMR).

If you received main ops you won't be selling tickets. However, if you get transportation you could do the spieling at the back of the tram... some of those people just CRACK me up!

Oh okay...It says selling tickets at the water parks or WWS I know the vacation planners do it at the parks, who knows we will see. I would hope to be doing the tram spiels if i get the parking aspect that would def be better then actually directing cars where to park haha thanks!

If you work on the trams, you don't just get to spiel. You alternate between being on the back of the tram, driving the tram, and in the lot parking during the day or at exit point directing people leaving at night.

The Living Seas doesn't exist anymore :D

My manager got her start on the CP at the Living Seas, when it was closed she was moved into a PI (not too shabby) and then moved up the ranks into Management where she now works for Animal Program (all before age 25).

But back to your question - I have no idea about The Seas with Nemo and Friends. I assume CPs can work the attractions (Turtle Talk and the Nemo ride). What are you specifically looking to do? My assumption is that most roles involving contact with animals are reserved for the PIs and professional CMs.

Oh haha I haven't been to Epcot in a long time. Thanks for the update.

Nah just a role with guest interaction maybe. I don't care, I just like being around animals. I know theres DAK of course, but I find the Oceans more interesting.

If I were you I'd put in a request to work at Seas with Nemo and Friends... it couldn't hurt!

I have heard that they consider your employment history in the choice as well. For example, for Hospitality role, they like you to have some type of experience with hotels and for the BBB they prefer people to have cosmetology training.

LoL I wish I could get a job in epcot in Innovations - I looove that place!

How exactly would I do that? Like would I e-mail my recuriter? Or ask about it when I get there?

You would email them before you arrive (your location will have been decided by then).
