How do the room attendants know you left your room?

I've always wondered how they know you left. I don't see them peeking down the hall, but they seem to get it done. I'm aware they know which dining we have, but how about the morning?

I've wondered that as well, but I have caught them a few times. I think they just get to know your routine since they are always in the hall. It seems to just be more of a pattern of them moving down the hall from room to room but they are definitely stealthy :) We are early morning risers though so we are a typical easy routine for them. We are out early and gone stay out of the room as much as possible. I wonder if it's a different experience for people that sleep in late. Maybe they are disturbed by a knock on the door?

They generally work in a straight row down the rooms from what I've seen. If it's a longer cruise, they tend to learn your patterns and work around it. But they start after people are normally expected to be out and about. If they open the door and someone is in there, they leave and come back later. I don't recall them ever knocking before entering but I may just not have noticed. If they hear the water running, they don't come in and will come back later. At least that's been my experience.

They just know. It’s all part of the Disney magic which can never be reviled
OK, this is probably a correct statement (on the DIS anyway), but how does autocorrect manage to get words so wrong?

Would agree that the attendants learn the habits of the cruisers, and adjust accordingly. You pretty much have to in a job like this.

They’re like Roz in monsters inc. watching, always watching...
I'm not sure if that's supposed to be comforting or not to have someone go "I'm watching you"

Dcl use to have a better way. They use to have a sign please clean my room. Not the exact words I forget but you get the point. They got rid of them signs.
Now if I’m in my room I leave the room occupied sign on there. If I’m out of my room I take it down.
I also make it easier for the stateroom host I tell them good morning, that way they know We are out of the room.

I suspect they have no special insight, but it does occur to me that if DCL wanted to, they could set up some sort of little of an electronic display that which rooms that have a card in the light-activation slot to know if a room is occupied or not.

But that wouldn't work for those of us who use some random card in the slot (and leave it there).

Well, they know which seating you have for dinner.
They put your excursion tickets in your room so they know when you are on excursions.
I'm just off a Celebrity cruise, and our stateroom host said he would be cleaning our room between 9 am and Noon, and 6 pm and 9 pm every day.
And now that the staterooms have the electronic key cards I have to wonder if those tell the attendant if someone has just entered or left a state room.
But as someone who has been cruising since 1980, I suspect they just are good at monitoring people's comings and goings.

In my experience, the excursion tickets are in an envelope in my room. I doubt that they open that and check them out.
I suspect they don't have to, the information is provided to them so they know when the best times are to clean your room. This is assuming you booked through the cruise line, not on your own.

It can't just be the door; I like to go up on deck early and see the sun rise, but DH usually doesn't get up until I get back and then we go to breakfast.
