How Do The Roller Coaster Compare To Cedar Points Coasters In Ohio?

We live in Ohio and have a great amusement park called Cedar Point, has anyone been there and how does the coasters compare because our daughter is 12 and worried. She does not like the big stuff like Millenum or Dragster, but liked the Raptor and Rocken Roller Coaster at disney. Please help, we leave in 4 days. Thanks so much

If your DD likes Raptor, she'll like Dueling Dragons and Hulk. Revenge of the Mummy is a non-looping coaster. Flying Unicorn and Woody Woodpecker are on the intensity scale of Woodstock Express.

So don't worry. There's no MF-TTD scale rides at UO. UO is cool in a different way than Cedar Point is cool.

Dueling Dragons is like Raptor and Hulk is like Mantis except you're not standing up and it has an intense launch at the beginning of the ride like Rock n Roller coaster,so she should be able to handle it.I've been on pretty much every kind of coaster out there and the last time I really felt nervous on a coaster was going up the lift hill on Millenium Force and seeing how high I was.The most intense coaster in Florida has to be Sheikra at Busch Gardens Tampa with a 200ft 90 degree first drop at 70 mph.

We just returned from Cedar Point's Music in the Parks--loved it--Triadelphia Middle School, Wheeling, WV, took home a whopping 9 trophies!! Even beating out high schoolers

The Mummy is great--kind of like the Transit at CP, but better because of the graphics.
IMHO the Hulk and Fire/Ice are actually better than Cedar Point's.

No, you cannot beat having 17 roller coasters in one park like Cedar Point, but Universal is fantastic--tell your daughter that when my kids were there when they were 10 and 12 they loved it--better than Disney, they said.


Maybe it is the wait time--once you expierence FOTL, the wait at other parks seems to take away from the fun.

As chaperones, we only had to meet up with our kids twice during the day.
I was proud to know that my kids rode the Millenium, Raptor, Dragster, Magnum and several of the others on their own. Most of the middle schoolers (especially the boys) would only ride the "baby" rides--go figure.

If staying on property, you get FOTL.
So that if your kids and you love a ride, you can ride it over and over.

First time at Universal, I ended up with motion sickness after 2 days from so much fun--so take your Dramamine

I am a roller coaster chicken (will do Mummy though) - but it seems that our experts have been helpful to you - be sure to let us know what your DD says/does. My 13 yo DD has been going on Dueling Dragons and Hulk ever since she was tall enough - can't keep her away

If the cp in ohio you are talking about is Kings Island then Universal coasters are a whole lot better cause whe live about 2 to 2 1/2 hours away from Kings Island and went there in 2006 and swore after that no more for us.

Tell her, too, that MIB is way better than the Buzz Light Year ride at Disney. Fun and fast enough that you will want to ride over and over to beat your scores.

I think we acutally liked shooting water at riders on Popeye's ride more than riding it.

The 3-D rides are way cooler than that other park, too. The Jurassic park ride is a great water ride with just enough thrills for a tween.

I'm just looking at her age and remembering my then 12 year-old daughter's ideas about life at that stage. (she's now 14) She didn't want to be bothered with all of the princesses, but still wanted to be a little girl (at times). Universal really fits the tween's need for a little more grown-up fun. Kind of like CP, but cleaner and not as many coasters, but really run rides.

Since you have been to Disney, you know how frantic it is. Universal isn't like that. You can enjoy shooting hoops like you do at any carnival and laughing with your family--not just trying to make sure you get your money's worth. Again kinda like CP.

other than the fact that they both are a dark rides, there is no comparison between the 2 rides...CPs transport 'coaster' was quite possibly the biggest waste of time we have even expended in an amusement park ; and the 3-D glasses that they hawk for a buck are just icing on the cake

otherwise, the coasters rock @ CP...i have a TR somewhere on the U thread here from last summer & jr is lobbying for a return this summer

only issue was the loooooooooooooong lines, even with the extra hour you get when staying onsite @ CP; I can't imagine it beginning to put a dent into the wait times...which makes riding all the coasters quite a feat when it's busy

OP - that said, nothing to the extreme of the 2 coasters u mention...she'll luv it, especially if you buy the express pass or stay onsite.

Thats ok I think alot of people don't know Cedar point and Cedar Fair are the same company cause if you go to thier website you will see the parks they own and Cedar point in Sandusky is one of them.
It confussed me the first time I seen the KIngs Island site cause I thought well cedar fair bought them and looked at the parks and seen it was the same company .

Kennywood, Pittsburgh, PA, is only about an hour from us, so I'm sure we'll be heading there this summer, too.

With gas prices soaring, we probably won't be doing the beach trip this year

we did both cedar point and kings island in june 05 --- the coasters at cedar point do not compare to the ones in universal --- hulk has the launch at the beginning which could scare (but you said she likes RNR) so she should be fine

my daughter and myself are roller coaster junkies and loved cedar point
we had a good time at kings island (got to ride beast jr before they took the loop out) but thought the park itself was dirty

as for cedar fair they also own dorney park in allentown (which at the time when we went to cedar point we were allowed to use our dorney season passes)

Cedar Fair also owns Canada's Wonderland. They put a terrific new B&M hyper, Behemoth, in this year. Finally, a company willing to put some world class coasters into our park.


If your daughter likes Raptor, I agree that she will be fine on Dueling Dragons. If she likes Wicked Twister, she will probably be fine on Hulk. The rest of the coasters are easy.

Cedar Fair bought all the parks that used to be Paramount.Carowinds in Charlotte,King's Dominion in Richmond,King's Island in Cincinnati,Canada's Wonderland and Great America in San Jose.They also bought Geuga lake by Cleveland and are moving their coasters to their other parks as Geuga Lake will be strictly a waterpark,I guess being that close to Cedar Point it was pointless to keep it as an amusement park.

An employee from Cedar Point told us that they are bringing some of the attractions from Geauga Lake over to CP soon. Wouldn't it be great to have the Sea World that I remember from my childhood back (70's)?
