How do the guides deal with the heat?

Hi Everyone!
We're leaving soon for our first ABD to Italy and the forecast is hot hot hot! Do the guides typically slow the pace a bit and take water breaks, get some shade etc? Or should we be prepared to power through and grab water whenever we can get it? TIA for any insight.

The ABD guides will take care of you. They should provide you with water, but I am a big water drinker and always bring an extra bottle for myself b/c I know I'll want it. Don't forget your sunglasses, a hat and sunscreen. Have a great trip!!!

What AquamarineSteph said. They will definitely pace things, and do whatever is necessary to keep things going. Our Guides actually bought us some little hand-held battery powered fans after we all totally melted in Hong Kong. They came in very handy!! I wish we'd had them *in* Hong Kong!

That said, there's only so much they can do -- be sure and let them know if you need to stop or whatever. They certainly don't want anyone getting ill!

The heat will be a factor, but they'll keep you hydrated as much as possible, and hopefully, you'll get some gelato as a treat on ABD. Rome and Venice will be the killers, but be aware, Rome has fountains you can refill from. Keep a few euros handy for sidewalk vendor water too, for oyo time or times when you may have no fountain to refill from...

And always grab extra water. Always. Plus, your hotel may provide in your room as well, I think.

We hit unseasonably hot weather in Spain this May. Bring a hand fan - that was my lifesaver. Plus, I felt very European.
