How do so many people NOT understand FP?

Unless a person doesn't speak English, there is no good excuse to not know about Fastpass. There is information about the Fastpass machines on park maps. For on-site guests, Fastpass information is on one of the resort TV shows. The machines themselves are easy to find and there are always cast members nearby to answer questions about the machines. :confused3 If they didn't look at a park map and if they didn't watch resort TV, you'd think they'd wonder about the FP lanes at the popular rides and ask about it. It's not as if WDW is trying to keep those machines a hidden secret.

I had a similar experience while waiting in the standby Land ride at Epcot. We already had a FP for something else and when some folks walked by in the FP line, the people in front of us whined, "I guess we're just not special enough" - which I suppose is true enough. If you're unable to read the instructions on the park maps then you're not special enough to get a FP! ~ no disrespect to those that cannot actually read ~ But for everone else, all it takes is a moment to read those instructions and can make a world of difference with your vacation experience. I agree with the common theme of this thread, "More for the rest of us!"

Some people just don't read at all, english or any other language. In all the maps it explains the use of fastpass. :confused3

I am one of those that may have a fastpass and also is doing a regular stand-by line. Some of the fastpass line guests think we are all idiots doing the regular line, and that is not so.

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this: in DisneyLand a few years ago, while our family was using the FP line, we encountered people standing in the standby line giving us dirty looks, even making rude comments about the fact that we were somehow "cutting" in line or being given special treatment. This was a fairly regular occurance for those of us in the FP line. :confused3

With information posted everywhere about FP, how is it that so many people still don't understand it? I know it doesn't do me any good asking here, because if you're on the DIS, you are a planner and more knowledgable about Disney! :teeth: I just don't understand how you'd pay a lot of $$ for a vacation, then not research it at all, even the basics like what FP is. Anyone else experience this, or maybe someone here used to BE that person who didn't understand FP? If so, what was your experience? Just curious if we'll have that happen to us in Dec. at DisneyWorld...maybe people understand it better now. :thumbsup2

It's sheer ignorance. If anyone ever shouted, "Cutter!" at me, I would graciously go over and explain in very small words how it works and how the FP rules and instructions are clearly printed on the map he/she is likely holding at the time... :teeth: I'd make sure everyone around that person heard, too, so as to educate them and embarrass the rude, ignorant fool. If someone doesn't understand FP, that's one thing. Shouting nasty names at others who DO read their park maps is entirely another, and from my experience, most of them do it right in front of their children. :sad2: But if that clueless person were me, I'd do what my mother taught me to do and stop a person "cutting' and say, "Excuse me, is this a special line you are in? How can I get in that line?" You would think others would figure that out, even if they are illiterate!

Is there a link somewhere for specific fast pass rules. I know the jist of it, but wanted to know how to take full advantage of it. I am a little confused in some areas. Like, how do you get a fast pass for the ride you in line for, if you haven't redeemed your current fast pass yet. Do you redeem them at the same kiosk you get knew ones? Going in July, I know I have to optimize this to its fullist.
Thanks

I don't get it either. My aunt took her 2 granddaughters down to WDW during their Spring Break. It was the peak of SB at WDW (or so I was told). Anyway, they head over to MK (on a Monday), got in line for Buzz Lightyear, had an ADR at the Castle for dinner, stood in line for Stitch's Great Escape and that was THE WHOLE DAY! I was in shock. "That was your day??" I asked her?? Those 3 things took their entire day b/c of crowds. And no they didn't get there when the park opened!

My aunt came home talking about how awful it was and they wished they had stayed on the beach where they started their vacation! I just smiled innocently. :rolleyes1 I had tried to offer just a few pieces of advice for them, a FP explanation being one of them....but she didn't need it! (Not that I'm anywhere near an expert...but I do a TON of research for ANY vacation!) Oh well, so glad it wasn't my trip.

If anyone ever shouted, "Cutter!" at me, I would graciously go over and explain in very small words how it works

We used to do that years ago. Now we just completely ignore those people. Nobody ever believed us, understood us, or wanted to learn how FP worked. If they did, I would be happy to take 2 minutes to help someone.

I learned long ago, to be blunt, there are millions of "common sense challenged" individuals. It is a wastes of time and effort to educate those that want to remain ignorant.

As for "extra" FPs, I give them away to teens if we're leaving and won't use them. A group of teens ALWAYS seem to know what a FP is. But it is funy, my wife is the most non-threatening person you can imagine and always wanted to give FP away to families with young kids. The look of terror in these parents' eyes that someone was handing them a FP!!!

Finally, according to CMs that work FP, the most irritating thing they have to deal with is people crowding around the return line within 15 minutes of the return time. Is this rocket science? Stand well to the side if you get their early. As terrible as it may be, maybe you won't be the first one to be be admitted exactly at 2:10. You may get in line <gasp> 30 seconds later than someone else.

thank you baileybelle! I should've looked here first. I've read just about everything else on that site!

Some of the folks in the standby line have FP's and know what they are. Some of these folks are just kidding around when they make faces or remarks about the people using FP

It is kind of difficult to get into a stand-by line without passing the FP machines. The people who walk straight on by those machines, and don't read or ever bother to see what they are and then complain when they see people using the advantage, are the kind of people who enjoy being served life on a silver platter. If they don't want to take a second to read what could save them time, so be it. Let them complain all they want...they are just being lazy. The more polite thing would be, ask a passing guest why they are walking right on by instead of being, well, "snobby" about it. This is just my opinion. ;)

I do agree that some are just kidding around, and I am not directing this post at them lol. This is for the the kind of people such as the man mentioned earlier about pounding on a CM. lol

The hovering around waiting for the 3 minutes to tick by until your FP is good drives me insane! We had a re-entry (from being stuck) for anytime and went to Splash Mtn. on Friday afternoon and I had to weave in and out of no less than 30 ppl standing there and giving me nasty looks so that we could get in line. Then they run, no sprint down the FP line as if it's going to make a huge difference.

After a 5 year absense we returned to WDW last summer. Lucky for my family I did a lot of research and knew the ins and outs of FP before we even left home. I can't recall seeing any dirty looks as we by-passed the stand by line---many many many times. :rotfl2: But then again we were having a fabulous time and weren't paying any attention to other people.

If people are to foolish as to not do their homework, considering the high cost of a WDW vacation, then to bad.

It has always been the same way with us. We haven't had anyone poorly comment to us about the use of a FP. I also agree that maybe it is we are having too much fun to notice the negitive. As I posted in another thread, I haven't really seen or heard anything horrible or disturbing...I blame the magic of Disney for that one!

Wow...that reminds me of the other thing we've seen...people standing by the line entrance, waiting for their FP time (starting their wait right after they get their FP ticket). Unbelievable. :rotfl:

This drives me crazy....I will be coming back for my 2:30 FP time and there will be people with a 3:00pm FR time trying to get in the line....meanwhile, this is holding up those of us who are actually able to ride at that time (j/k)... :lmao:

Move over DVC, the Best Kept Disney Secret is FastPass. I love getting behind the people who haven't figured out the machnes and stand there for 1o minutes trying to figure them out.

And why is there lines for half the machines, and the other half are standing there empty? It's like people know which ones are going to give out better times. Kind of like lurking over slot machines in Vega$

We used FP a lot!

But some times we had to do standby because our FP time didn't allow us another yet. So when folks walked by us who were in the FP line and would look at us sorry folks in standby I wanted to say "We know about FP! We just are waiting on the one we have!"

Now there were many times were there were long standby lines and we had FP and those folks would just give us looks like why are they moving and we're not?

I suppose these are the same people who step off an escalator and stop as if no one else needs to get off.

>>> "Cutter!"

In order to say that he had to know something about Fastpass, namely that there exists something called the Fastpass queueing area and that there must exist some reason for people to be in that path.

You would think that would be the case, right? :confused3 But there truly are people out there who just don't "get it". :rotfl: I remember waiting in the Space Mountain line while I had a FP to Buzz. There were people in line completely baffled by the other line. I think some folks are in such a rush, they don't bother to see what the machines are for. Many people also assume that you have to pay for FP.

Plus I think for some folks that waiting in line is just part of the whole theme park experience. So they don't bother to plan or look at a map, etc. Well, WDW isn't just another theme park, baby!
