Can someone explain to me how the room safes work? We are heading to the CR in a few weeks and I didnt know how they work and who would have access to them. Does the housekeeping staff have any access? Should we feel completely safe leaving extra money/travelers checks/credit cards in them while we are out of the room? Thanks for the help. :Pinkbounc

There is a key in the lock when you get into your room. Just lock your valuables and take the key with you. Each is unique. If you don't leave it when you check out, or lose it, you'll be charged $50 to rekey the lock. So no, nobody but a locksmith would have a key.

I've left hundreds of dollars in cash, a handful of credit cards, our passports, jewelry, my checkbook, presciption medications all in the safe and have never had a problem. And yes, we do lock up the controlled substance prescriptions that DS takes.
