How do purchases at the parks code, for cc points?

This is a question for the credit card points enthusiasts out there. How do purchases at the parks code? For example, if I dine at an in-park restaurant will the purchase be coded as "Dining?"

Also, if I charge everything to my room and pay the balance at my resort, how does that code? Travel?

I'm trying to figure out if it's more advantageous to carry my CC into the parks or if it's better to charge everything to my room, from a points-earning standpoint.

That would depend entirely on the individual CC. What might code as "dining" on my AmEx could code as "general purchase" on my Citibank Mastercard.

Hmm. I thought since the coding is determined by the merchant, it would be the same across different CCs.

I guess I will have to ask a more specific question then - does anyone with a Chase Sapphire Preferred card know how the purchases code? I didn't have this card on our last trip so I can't just look back at old statements.

We're going without a dining plan this time so I'll be paying for all of our meals OOP. Travel & dining are both 2x points categories on the CSP but I'm not sure how room charges will code. I'd think they'd code as travel but I'd hate to lose out on all those 2x points if they don't.

Are you staying on site? If you charge everything back to your room and pay it off from the hotel, it will code as travel and get the 2x points.

We only used our card once for dinning on out last trip ( Sept 2016). We ate at sunshine season in EP and used a chase Disney. It coded as a reasturant.

Restaurants both TS and CS will code as such on chase... Or shall I say did all the times I was there including last year and got 5% back with the freedom promotions. Some have reported resorts will be travel some have not... I can tell you DVC will not. In the end a charge to a room is not travel it is a purchase of merchandise. If you book a resort and pay for a stay that is different however it still may not credit as such if it is put on your room bill along with other purchases.

This is exactly the same question I wanted to ask! Does anyone know how Discover codes for TS and CS restaurants? Last year, June was 5% for restaurants, hoping it's the same this year - since we are going in June!

Thank you for the info. We are renting DVC points this year so I will carry my card into the park for dining purchases. I also forgot that the 5x category on Freedom is restaurants for the summer, so thanks for that reminder! My trip straddles Aug-Sept so I'll have to remember to use Freedom for the first half of the week and then switch to CSP for the last 3 days.

im not sure if this applies, but this was posted in the other thread.

I spent $237 on dining, which posted on my CSR as "DLR dine" but only got 1 point/$. :sad1:

I know confirm Churro cart and quick service(ice cream parlor) both code as 3x with Chase CSR. Parking did not code 3x(unsure of what it codes to). Last year, i tried my Chase Freedom hoping to get the 5x but it coded was entertainment.

I just checked my CSP statement. I am a DVC member and stayed on points and used my magic band for all purchases including tickets purchased at Disney Springs, merchandise at stores, and dining. I got 3 points per dollar so I would assume you would get your 2 points with your CSR for magic band purchases!
