How do I use A+ Credits to Upgrade to BC?

I am going to book a flight from Detroit to Orlando for October. I have 4 A+ Credits that expire 10 days after my flight so I would like to use them for an upgrade since we are not flying again for several years.

How do I use the credits to "pay" for the upgrade? My friend is coming with me and she is planning on paying for the upgrade. What is the best way for us to do this? If I get the upgrade and she doesn't, that is fine. What we do not want is for her to pay for the upgrade and then I don't get it. How do we go about doing this? We are not planning on checking any bags so we would like to bypass the counter at the airport, if possible.

First, create an upgrade voucher online. Then call AirTran any time the day before your flight and request the upgrade. You don't have to wait for the 24 hr. mark. I usually call at midnight in attempt to be first in line.. In your case, I would ask about the possibility of getting your friend's upgrade at the same time. I don't know whether they'll do that or not, but it never hurts to ask. If you can't, your friend (or whoever is doing the online check-in) should check-in online right at the 24 hr. mark and purchase the upgrade. If you're only taking carryon bags, you can skip the counter and proceed directly to security at the airport.

I just requested the upgrade voucher even though I haven't booked the flight yet. This is great since the flight we are looking at is $54 and I have the coupon code for the $25 off. So, now I can fly business class to Orlando for a whopping $29!

I have another question for you...

Looking at my BC redemption voucher, there is a voucher number on it, but no mention of my A+ rewards number. When I call to upgrade, do I just give them the voucher number? Is it linked to my A+ number or my name? The reason I ask is because each of my DD's also have 4 credits that are due to expire. Can I redeem one of theirs for a voucher and let my friend use it? I would assume that the credits should somehow be linked to the A+ account and my friend doesn't have one. I'm just wondering if the "vouhcher" works like a "coupon".

Good news! Once you've created the voucher it can be used for anyone you choose! They just ask you for your voucher #. The A+ number only comes into play when you are obtaining the voucher. I don't know how many vouchers you can get using your DD's credits, but if they're expiring anyway I'd create the vouchers and try to upgrade on your return trip, too! Keep in mind that if you don't use them for this trip, they're still good for a year after you create them.

Keep in mind that if you don't use them for this trip, they're still good for a year after you create them.

OMG!!!! That is AWESOME!!!

My DD's each have 4 credits so that should be enough to upgrade 3 of the 4 we need. My friend would only need to pay for her upgrade on the way home! Oh....that means that we can check at least one bag for free then too, right? THAT would be great since we could pack a bag of food with a collapsible cooler.
