How do I tip a drinks server?

The reason I ask is because I was at jellyrolls sat on a table. Everytime I ordered the server left the drinks and was gone before I could stop her. Is there some etiquette I'm missing in how to do this like folding the tip 6 times and placing I on the table facing north ?

I never thought getting drunk could be so complicated

Normally, you have the same drinks server at Jellyrolls. If that's the case, just tip him/her at the end of the night. I believe they pool tips at Jellyrolls anyway.

thanks for that!

and is it normal to tip a dollar per drink for the barman then extra for the person serving or is it just a flat dollar?

We normally tip $1 per drink for bottled drinks like Bud and a couple of $$ for mixed drinks.

When we went to Jellyrolls, we opened a tab. At the end of the night, we paid the check (using DH's credit card - yes, the bill was THAT high ;)) and gave the server an extra $20 plus in cash as a tip.

We run a tab whenever we're having more than one drink - it's standard practice in the US. We tip 20% of the bill; the same as we do for restaurant service. If paying in cash (either the entire bill, or just the tip element) it's also normal practice to just leave it on your table (and that applies to both restaurants and bars). Hope that helps. :)
