Sorry, another Pop question, and yes I have looked at the map already. The message with the picture is http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=23481573&postcount=658 I would LOVE to stay in the 70's myself but it doesn't have a pool. It is hard to tell from looking at the pictures if the 70's big wheel building is far away from the hippy dippy pool or the bus stops/food court. To me they don't look far. I would like to stay in the section that is between the goofy squirter and the playground I THINK. I know if it is more than a 5 minute walk, I would have DH go get refills of drinks for us off and on and I could stay in the room with the kids, but I have read that some people don't even use the mugs because the food court is too far away from the rooms. Doses this look like a good section? Is the goofy squirter actually a water squirter or what? I will have a 4yo and 8yo that I think would like the playground and squirter just as much as any of the pools. When I make reservations online, is there a place to request wich building I want? How do I know if it is a perfered section or not even though I dont' think it is?:confused3

Thanks

The Big Wheel, Foosball and Mickey Telephone are all right next to each other. They are only a 1-2 minute walk to the Goofy Car Squirt thing, which is soft ground with water jets coming out of the ground. Good luck getting the kids passed that everyday!!

The foodcourt, main building is 30-45 seconds behind the Goofy Car. I've stayed twice in the 70's and loved it. The first time I was right across from the playground (sorry, don't remember the room) and it was a 1 minute walk to the parking lot/bus area and 2-3 minute walk to the main building if you went in the back of the building (as opposed to walking in from the bus stop) For some reason I alsways walked into the back of the building (where the main pool is). I beleive there is only one playground, so if you find that on the map that's the area you want to be in, unless you pay for a preferred room

I have never noticed the playground there. I have stayed there 3 times but I guess never in that area. I was just wondering what the odds of getting a certain room are. There are several of us going in June and we have 5 rooms, but not grand gathering. If we all send a fax to get close, like in the same building do you think it will happen?

When you make your reservations online :surfweb: , there is no place to make requests, at least no place that I seen. You can call the Reservations line after you have made your reservations, and then make a request for a specific location. Keep in mind that this is only a request and is not guaranteed. When you are three days out from arriving to Pop, you can call and/or fax the resort directly and reiterate your request. Again it is not guaranteed, but from what I have read this 2nd step does help. Good luck! :thumbsup2

Thanks! I think we will give it a try. Of course, we have nothing to lose. I noticed that you will be leaving Pop the day we arrive. Enjoy you stay! :)

When we were there in October '06 our room was at the far end of the 70's Big Wheel building. Even from there the walk to the pool was very short, just a few minutes. Unless your DH has mobility issues, making a soda run with the mugs wouldn't be a problem. The resort didn't seem as "big" to me as people made it seem - it was very, very manageable.

My kids were 4.5 and almost 8 when we went, and they loved the Hippy Dippy pool as well as the Goofy fountain (the water squirts up from the ground randomly.) There was also a Twister game court we went by each day they had fun playing on.

We're going back next January and I plan on staying at POP again!

I have stayed in that Very 70's Building 2x now and it is very close to the main pool as well as the food court and busses. I have also stayed in the 50's section as well as the 60's section and have to say that our rooms in the 70's have always been the closest we have had at Pop.

Both times, we were on the backside looking towards the lake and the 60's building. Goofy's Pop Jets are right next to it and the Hippy Dippy Pool isn't much further. Here are some pictures:

Okay, let's see. First, as far as I can tell, the link posted by the OP doesn't indicate a particular room but rather an entire building (unless I'm missing something, which is always possible). If the OP wants to be in the building highlighted in that post, she needs to merely request "Building 6".

Pop Century is sort of an oval-shaped trapezoid. Its two most distant diagonally-opposite rooms are less than 1,500 feet apart.

NO room is more than 750 feet from the center of Classic Hall, so many rooms are closer than that.

"Five minute walk" would depend on how fast the OP walks, but even in the original "Groovy New Pop Century FAQ" thread, it was stated that nothing is more than a seven or eight minute stroll from Classic Hall - and a stroll is pretty slow and relaxed.

The areas outlined in yellow here http://www.willcad.org/maps/resorts/resort_pop_prefered.jpg are the Preferred rooms.

No, you CANNOT enter any room location requests online. After you get your e-mail confirmation, you can call and have them added to your reservation. Keep requests to a minimum. You're more likely to get what you want (but of course nothing's guaranteed).

Why not get a grand gathering number?. . .

Thanks for all the info! I am definitely going to request the 70s building then. I wanted that to begin with but was afraid it would be too far. I can walk ok but I can't walk fast. I didn't want to stay in the 70's because I wanted it and then not be able to enjoy the pool or the drinks as often as we wanted because I was slowing everyone else down. That is why I said about DH getting the drinks but from the sounds of it, we could all go to the food courts easily if we wanted (and if we get in the 70s building). I am also going to stick with the preferred room since that section I want is in the preferred section.

We were in building 6, facing the lake. It's the mickey phone building. It's a short walk to classic hall, very close to the jets, and not bad to the pool (well, it's the same distance to the pool as to classic hall, but you're lugging stuff so it seems longer).

My kids, 4 & 7, liked the jet fountains A LOT, even in December when it was freezing!

I think next time we will request 50s close to the parking lot because we do like to use our car, especially in the evenings. I don't like facing a pool or even being near one really, another reason we originally requested the 70's.

We stayed in the 60's building which is right next to the goofy squirters and the hippy dippy flower pool....so much fun!! 70's is right across from it and they are both VERY close.

And the mugs are a very good investment!! We used them for coffee in the morning to wake us up, hot chocolate when it was chilly, slushies when we were hot and of course SODA!! They were great. We're bringing them back with us this year too as it is still million dreams. My parents have brought theirs back for the third year in a row and they let you use them.

Why not get a grand gathering number?. . .

I am not realy sure why we didn't go with the grand gathering. I think I was a little afraid that some of my fellow people might back out. I guess we could still go back and fix it for a grand gathering. Also, I was not real sure if grand gathering groups would get a good room since there were some many of us.
