How do I rent out enough points to pay for a cruise?

I am interested in taking a cruise in March 2012. I checked the point chart that just came out this week, and according to it, I will need * points for 2 of us. Then I check DCL site, the toal price for the same cruise cost $1400. So I am thinking, if I rent out points to pay for the cruise, I am pretty sure it will cost me less then * points.
My question is: How do I go about doing that? I tried posting on the rent board in the past and I never got any result and ended up violated some rules.
My use year is *, which year of points should I rent out?
Please help. Thanks everyone.

Start by reading the stickies and embedded links @ the top of the Rent/Trade board.

Is it too early to rent the points out now? I am a bit confused aboutthat part.

You can post on the boards that you have Points for Rent, list your home resort and the amount points you are willing to use, and the use year in the title. Then you will get many people, depending on when they want to travel it may work. Depending on how many points you want to give someone, you may want to look at someone who wants a trade. A trade is alot easier. All you have to do is give your points to a current DVC member, and they will able your points to theirs and make their own reservation. Your part is done. You can only make one trade per year.

You are right living20057, transfer will be much easier, I don' have to worry about it once it transfered out of my account.
I just not sure when I should do this. *********** Oh, and BTW Can I transfer "banked" points?

Details such as resort, points, use year, etc. are not allowed on these boards as your postings may be construed as seeking to transfer and/or rent points. Those details may only be posted on our Rent/Trade Board and per the Guidelines posted there.

General questions are fine though.

You cannot transfer banked points. Only current year points.

What is the equivalent in $ for the cruise if you take the cruise cash price and divide by the number of points it would take? If that is less than $10, you should be better off paying cash and renting your points out to pay for it.

That's how I got the idea of renting the points to pay for the cruise, it is way less then $10. If I rent that # of points they ask for cruise, it will be enough to pay the cruise in cash plus the airfare (I think).
Do you still have to pay DCL taxes and fees if you pay by points?

I don't know since I have never and will never pay with points. I pay cash for my cruises. I know there is a $95 charge just to make the reservation with points. And a $95 additional charge for any change you make to the reservation after that.

You can transfer current points whenever you want. Usually people who want transfer points, say what use year they are looking for. Some people want to use the right now while others may be planning something for later.

If I pay cash for the cruise, do I still have to pay some sort of fee whenever I need to change the reservation (like the $95)?

If you pay cash, as long as you are before the paid in full date (except for concierge cabins and some special cruises) there is no penalty for cancellations for changes, and the deposit is fully refundable. If you change to a different category or date, the cost will be based on the current fare, which may be higher than the fare when you originally booked, but that is the only potential cost. If you cancel after the paid in full date, there are penalties that increase from the deposit amount to 50% of the fate as you get closer to the cruise. No cancellations are allowed less than 7 days before sailing. I am not sure whether there is a penalty for changes after the paid in full date.

Since you are brand new to renting out points, consider Daddio's service.

He will find the renter(s) for you and do all of the contact with them on your behalf. He knows all the ins and outs of renting so you won't have to worry about it. All you will have to do is call MS to make the reservation and collect the money.

There is a banner ad at the top of the R/T Board with a link to his website. Find out more by visiting his website.
