I had heard this was a good option for some. Just got the go ahead from the DH to plan a trip for April. :cheer2: Talk about last minute! How do I even begin the process of renting or buying points for stays? Any help would be appreciated.

You need to go to our DVC Rent/Trade Board and read the stickies at the top of the forum. Those should help you out. There are also other boards about DVC there that can help if you have questions.

Where is the rent/trade board? can you provide a link?

first thing to be aware of is that DVC owners can book 11 months out at their home resort and many do...so availability 2-3 months out can definitely be spotty and some owners won't even bother responding to you for short notice requests since those requests are often a waste of time.

but if you are flexible and willing to consider larger resorts like SSR or OKW, there may still be availability. if you expect to book smaller resorts like BLT or BCV, you will probably be disappointed unless you start looking about a year in advance (although it is true that anything can happen - it's just more rare to find something 2-3 months out.)

also, it's getting a little dated but you should definitely scan through the [thread=1669863]Considering Renting from a DVC Member?[/thread] thread...

just FYI, one thing that has changed from that thread is that renters can verify their reservation directly with disney now on this website:

http://mydisneyreservation.com/DVC

(updated to add: also, i don't think you can see the rent/trade board any more until you have 50 posts...that's a pretty recent change.)

I am not a DVC member but a friend of mine told me she bought someone elses points from this site. How do I do that? I am unable to access DVC Trade/Rent board, message says I do not have access. [snipped by moderator] any help would be greatly apprecaited.
Thanks

I think you need a certain post count to be able to enter.

There are plenty of websites and forums. In fact one dedicated for renting points. Google is your friend. You should pay between $10 and $13 a point

You need to be a fully registered member to see the Rent/Trade Board. mkmc422-- you have not completed your registration process by clicking the link in the confirmation email sent to you. Please take care of this and then you will be able to view that board. You will also need 10 posts on our boards in order to send and receive PM's.

Great information here :thumbsup2 I do want to clarify that the last part is incorrect. Anyone that is a fully registered member may view and respond to a post on the Rent/ Trade board. They will need 10 posts in order to send and receive PM's. The 50 post change is for those that are offering their points and there are some particular rules on who can offer points and when. These rules are explained in the Sticky Thread at the top of the R/T Board.

As others have mentioned, trying to book DVC points for April in February will be tricky - little to no availability will be an issue. Also, a lot of people don't know it, but when you rent/book on points for a Disney DVC property, you are not eligible for resort discounts or for free dining discounts. That won't really be an issue for April, as most of the month is peak season for crowds and rates, but in other seasons it can make a difference in pricing and getting the best "deal."
