I was lucky enough to get one of the candy animals from Miyuki. She made me a purple hummingbird. I was able to get it home in one piece

I'm not sure how to take care of it. I know the obvious, don't handle roughly, keep in a dry place. Do you think I can take off the plastic bag? I don't want to attract bugs. I want to keep it as long as possible.

I have nothing for ya in how to keep it, but just wanted to say....WOW! How'd you get so lucky???? I've only seen her ever give these to children.

That's beautiful! How lucky you were to get it.

I wonder if you could do some sort of spray shellac to preserve it?

I did have my birthday button on and I was standing there waiting for her to start. I'm not sure if either or both of those caused her to pick me. She was very adamant during her set that she remembers who is there so if you are there from the beginning she might pick you. I know I was lucky to get picked.

I got one of these years and years ago... 2002 or 3 I think. And it was just because I was standing there the whole time, too. I was really surprised when she pointed at me and said "YOU NEXT!"

Anyway, I've never taken it out of the little baggie it was in, and it's still in perfect condition. I really don't know if it's because of the bag or not. I guess if it had gotten dusty it might be a little gross by now. I'm not sure you could wash it off again without melting it a bit? :confused3

Congrats on getting picked. It's a really cute hummingbird!

My fiancee was obsessed with that lady...we went there several times 2 trips ago and waited for her to start. We must have spent 3 hours total trying to get one of those. She was so iritated that she refused to go back ever again, so on our last trip we had to wait until her show was over to walk through Japan.

We were lucky enough to get one a couple of years ago.

I had planned on saving it, sadly DD only had it for 20 minutes before she ate it.

In our pre-disboard days DH and I were both offered one, and we turned it away. We didn't realize it was free and an honor to be picked. Last year both DDs got picked. We were there first and they were wearing matching shirts. One got a pig and the other an elephant. Only someone from Iowa would pick a pig :) Younger DD ate hers before we were out of Japan. Not very good.

My son got 2 last trip. He got a flamingo which the leg broke so I let him eat it. Then by chance he got an orange tiger. We got it home and had it about a month and on his birthday he actually asked if he could have it so I gave it to him. I have no idea how you would save it. They are so pretty.

Miyuki gave me a separate piece of the candy to eat. Not something I would eat again. It didn't even taste like good hard candy. But it is too pretty to eat. She did make a point of saying only 1 per family.

You've got a photo. I think that's about the best way to preserve it.

My DD got a yellow dolphin in 2006. It held up pretty well, until she stepped on a couple of months ago. But I assume your area doesn't look like my teen's room so it will probably be ok. ;)

We were at the Party for the Senses years ago and she was there. She made me a parrot (go figure). We kept it a long time! I carried it on the plane. Carried it home. Took off the wrap and kept it in a vase on a table in our living room. Eventually it started to melt (just from the light bulb it was sort of near and probably summer), and it had to go. But it did last a long time!! Good luck with yours! They make great memories anyway.

Wow. Beautiful child! Her father must be incredibly handsome! :goodvibes

My daughter was given a turtle when we were there on our last trip. Unfortunately, it kind of melted and got disfigured when it was hot this summer. I would love to know the answer for future reference, in case she is priveleged enough to be chosen again.

My boys were lucky enough to get one way back in 2001. They got a green lizard. We've gone back a few times in the last few years and they boys always hope they will get picked again, but she kind of looks right past them, even if we're there early. I guess it's probably because they are older, but I still feel bad for them. They would be just as excited as those little kids to get another candy animal.

We didn't try to keep ours, they ate it after dinner. I would just try to preserve it in pictures. Take it out of the bag and get some good pictures of it.

My daughter is a teen too, so don't give up hope. My daughter was 13 when she got hers.
