How do I pay for my vacation package using only gift cards?

I want to order from Target.com on my Red Card and get 5% off about $4,000 worth of Disney Gift Cards.

But, how do I then pay for my vacation package? I keep hearing different things about how many can be used online for a package and how many can be used on the phone.

I'm FINE with calling multiple times (vacation is in August). I just want to know an actual way this will work so I'm not stuck with all those gift cards.

Thanks in advance!

I just purchased 46 gift cards last night from target and currently online it is only allowing me to use one at a time. I jusy keep logging back in and making another 50.00 payment. Unsure if I'd call in how many I could pay with. Hope this helps and best of luck.

As I understand it, you can do it all online with one caveat. The online system will only accept two forms of payment for the deposit. If you only have $50 gift cards, you'll need to pay the rest of the deposit with a credit card. Then, you should be able to pay off the rest of the trip with the gift cards.

If you book a package, you should be able to do that online. If you book a room-only reservation, you don't have to pay anything else until you show up; so you can hand over the gift cards at that time.

Thanks, I worked some magic today.

I added 4 gift cards to the Disney Vacation Account and paid my deposit from that. Then I added one card on my actual reservation as a test payment and it worked fine. I think I'm free and clear to order the remaining 60 gift cards now.

It's time consuming, but I'll save $162.50, plus when I order these 60 through ebates on target.com I should get an extra 2.5% back (I don't know if there is cap or not).

Please let us know how this works for you.

Awesome, just watch your numbers because if you add too much you can request the balance on a gift card but it's limited to $500 a year. If you need a refund they will refund to the gift card so don't throw them away until after the trip

For the rest of the payments I'll just be paying on my actual reservation that I made, I won't be adding it to the Disney Vacation Account anymore. I really only used that to add the 4 $50 gift cards so I could pay the deposit with that.

I'm interested in knowing if the 2.5% Ebates cash back works on Disney gift cards. Looking at the Ebates site for Target it says "No Cash Back on Baby Care (diapering, feeding, toiletries), Gift Cards & Prepaid Cards." Would be awesome if it did since the 5% pharmacy rewards is no more!

Yes, I saw that, but I've also seen reports that people did get the ebates back. I've placed one order (max of 3 cards) so I will let you know if I see anything in the ebates account.

(I also ordered a small item with it, as some people think that may trigger the ebates reward...so I should at least see the reward for that).

That sounds like a really good idea. I'm going to order one card along with a small item and just see what happens. At the very least I'll get the 5% from using my Red Card, which is the best I can do anyway. Any ebates will just be icing on the cake.

Just got the ebates notification that my account was only credited $0.06 so it didn't work for me on the gift cards. No problem, 5% is fine with me!

Last year when I paid for my package there was no limit as to how many I could apply over the phone. I had a great rep who was very patient and "magical".

As someone else mentioned make sure to save all of those giftcards until after your vacation. If anything should happen refunds go back to the original for of payment. That means each of those $50 giftcards.

I think my time is worth more than a 5% savings!

I guess that depends on how that 5% translates I to actual dollars. 5% off $100 = $5. 5% off of $3000 = $150.

I wouldn't bother with the former but I would for the latter.

The PP had 46 GCs. That's $2300 and a savings of $115. Yeah. I would get the GCs to save that much even if it meant entering them one at a time.

They changed the MDE website since last year and I can't find out where to pay down my balance. It doesn't even show what my balance is. What am I missing? We have a package and the only financial info is from my e-mailed reservation. Thanks.

  1. Once you're in MDE, click on "My Reservations and Tickets" in the drop-down menu.
  2. After your resort reservations have loaded, there should be a link for making a payment listed under the reservation - IF YOU HAVE A PACKAGE!
  3. If it isn't there, then click on the "View Details" link located underneath the abbreviated reservation info. A new window will open over top of the main MDE screen.
  4. Allow the window to fully load your info. A link for making a payment should appear right under the title: "Reservation for #".

Room-only reservations cannot be paid online. Your balance does not need to be paid until you check in. I guess that they figure most people would prefer to do it that way. You could always call CRO to make a payment over the phone for a room-only reservation.
