How do I get the best price

on a Dodge van? I've bought ford and chevy before and got great deals. I've never delt with Dodge before and don't know how they do things. Is the sticker price negotiable with them? I know that ford was so much easier to get a good deal with then chevy. What is Dodge like? Unfortunately my dh's work doesn't offer a discount for them. We will put 10,000 to 12,000 down should we get a good price before telling them this? TIA

I don't know about negotiating, but I would definitely not tell them about your downpayment before you negotiate a price.

First you negotiate price (maybe tell them what you want to pay for the van), and then you negotiate APR (they are having some good deals with their cash back and APR incentives (0% if you take 36 months of payments-I was just browsing on their website before reading your thread, lol). Also, with the lifetime powertrain warranty (non-transferrable), you don't have to worry about if you should or shouldn't get an extended warranty. I so wish I could afford those vans, they look sooo nice!

I've heard in the past some people get really good deals by contacting dealerships online and working them down on paper, one against another and then go in to buy the one that meets a price you are happy with. I've never done this, but maybe other dis'ers can give you some first hand advice about this. Good luck!

Try Edmunds.com - You can get a good idea what the veh is going for in your area. They also show you the rebates available. I'd go in knowing what you are willing to pay for the veh and walk if they can't meet it. I'd also check around with your bank or credit union 1st and get preapproved for the amount you'll need to finance. When it comes time to do the paperwork I'd let them see the best rate they can offer you if its better do it through the dealership. Another thing I've found is make sure they are not adding on extras you are not aware of like credit life, disability and extended warranty. I work for an insurance company so alot of people will bring in their paperwork to change out the veh. I can't tell you how many times I've pointed out to people things they were not aware of on their own car deal. Makes me afraid of car salesmen.

I was going to say the same thing. The best deal on a Dodge van is NOT buying one!!

Do you have a costco membership?? If so they will negotiate good rates for you, no hassle

If there is any way you can finance via your bank, do it! What they negotiate on the vehicle, you can lose on the financing. NEVER discuss trade in, down payment or fiancing until you negotiate (IN WRITTING) the price of the vehicle. Ask to see the invoice - it will show dealer price as well as addons like advertising cost, transportation etc.
If you have fiancing outside the dealer, go in on the last day of the month-ready to buy and tell them what you will offer over the invoice (for example Chrysler employees pay $200 over invoice-no ad or transport costs.
The dealer has to pay rent on the cars on the the lot on the 1st of the month-if they sell it on the 31st-the know they won't have to carry it to the next month.
Also do your homework on extened warranty-they can also get ya on that.
