How do I get an AP and DDE for May trip?

I'm considering buying at least one AP for my next Disney trip and if I do that, I also want to get the DDE card. We are planning a trip now for May and we know we're going to go back again before May '08 (Dec '07 or Feb '08), so we think an AP makes sense for at least one of us. What I want to know is, how do I go about buying the AP so that I can also get the DDE card? I read somewhere that it takes a long time to get the DDE card and you can only buy AP's at WDW? So, is it impossible to buy an AP and get the DDE card in time for that trip? I'm confused -- can someone set me straight?

go to disneyworld.com and purchase an AP (or as many as you will use for your family if you choose to purchase more than just one for the perks). they will send you a voucher that you can take to the parks on your first day there and activate.

with that voucher, you can call and purchase your DDE card. they will ask for info from that voucher when you call. they will send you the card in a few weeks (they have gotten better about this - it took me about 4 weeks to get my card, but you should request the card about 6 weeks out from your trip. if the card does not get there the week before you leave, call again and explain this to them and they will make arrangement for you to pick up a temp card somewhere on property - i think it is the guest services area outside of epcot.)
