Ok I know first I gotta get the luggage. Take the tram, right? Then where the heck do I go? And how do I find the car once I go through the line? Want to have everything "walked through" just in case Im doing this without help.

The luggage and rental car counters are very close by, just follow the signs out of the terminal (you'll go in the glass shuttle tram before getting to the Baggage Claim or to the Avis rental counter). The luggage claim and rental car counters are one and two floors below where you come out of the tram and it is pretty well marked. Just follow the Ground Transportation and Baggage Claim signs. The Avis counter is right there onsite and after you are checked in you get in the elevator and go all the way down and walk thru a tunnel to get to the parking garage on the opposite side of the street. They'll tell you what floor to go back up to in the parking garage (I believe it is R2). Then you just pick up your car and you're on your way! The only annoying thing is that everyone is trying to cram themselves and all their luggage on the elevators at once so it can take a few tries to get an elevator.

It's not hard at all, the airport is really tourist friendly and well marked.

Have fun!

Right on, Archimomma! And imgoingtodisney - If your luggage rolls, it won't be a problem.:jester:

Visit the <a href="http://www.orlandoairports.net:/goaa/main.htm">Orlando International Airport site</A> for lots of info and even <a href="http://www.orlandoairports.net:/goaa/arrive/arrive.htm">walk-through photos</A> and video for that airport. If you have never been there, it can be useful. <a href="http://www.orlandoairports.net:/goaa/ops/term.htm">Complete diagrams</A> are on the site. You can click to enlarge any of them.

I'd love to hear how Avis works out for you when you return. We usually use Happy Limo, but I'll be attending a conference at WDW in October and staying at a maingate area hotel, so we rented a car for the first time ever because it will be pretty much necessary. I got Avis via Priceline and would love to know how it goes. I prefer towncars and am a little nervous about driving, but from what I've heard so far, it sounds pretty convenient.

Hey we used Avis on our last trip. It was very convenient. It's right in the baggage claim area. After you get your bags head left and you will eventually get to the Avis counter. Then, it's a short walk to the parking garage. Have a great trip!!!!

You might want to go to the Avis website and sign up for My Prefered Avis. It's free and although I just signed up my dad has used this for years and he said he never has to go to the counter. They have his car ready with the trunk up and the keys in the ignition. He just the car and leaves.

Ok this sounds really interesting to me, but if the keys are already in the car what stops someone else from taking the car I have paid for? Can you explain to me more how this works? We are renting a car in Dec. and I would love to make it go faster!! Thanks Ann

so IF there are 2 adults, 1 can get the luggage while the other gets the Avis car?
You need to bring your luggage to past the counter to get the car. So if one person can carry everything and there is a line splitting up would be helpful.

We used Avis at MCO last January, and it worked great. I would not split up though, because if my memory is correct, luggage pick up is on one level, rental car counter is down one level, then you cross the street, or go underground to get to the parking garage and then Avis is on level 2. Plus, the exit for the parking garage dumps you out on the main exit road, so it would mean a lot of backtracking to go find the person with the bags. I haven't done Avis check-out using Avis prefered, but have with EA and they check your license and rental confirmation before you can leave the lot.

Ok they have your name on the car, is this in a public lot or only an avis lot? I really like the idea of moving fast once we hit orlando but am totally confused on this preferred thing.

It is in the Avis lot with all of the other cars but it is moved into some spots in the front with the trunk open and it is ready to go.

with the price being per 24hr period, how do they know what time you took the car?

In most places, after you get in the car and go to leave the parking area, there is a guard who checks your contract and drivers license. I am not sure if that's how it works at MCO.

I use the Preferred service for both Hertz & Avis, and can assure you that nobody has ever taken my car. However, if someone did, you would just go to the Preferred counter (which is usually in the lot, so you don't have to go back to the terminal) and they would take care you.

No worries.

thaks for the info, I am going to sign up for preferred this week!

It's well worth it. Also make sure to give them your airline FF number so you'll automatically get credit.
