How do I determine use year?

Hi, I am seriously considering DVC and have been reading all of the threads and literature I can get my hands on....

Here is my questios for you pros: I have no current vacation planned this year but would like to purchase and start planning. What would be my best bet for use year, we do not travel at the same time every year, we have gone in May and Aug in the past but would like to go all different times. Also, is there some advantage for a specifc UY for this year (ie do I not pay MF for 2007, etc or anythig else you can think of)

There really is no good answer if you don't go the same time every year. We have a June use year because we know we generally will go in the summer so the points are available at the beginning of the summer.

If you have no preference, perhaps a January use year might work, but if there is a pattern to your traveling, probably the earliest month of that general time frame.

With a June use year, we have gone in June, July, March this year, and never had trouble getting ressies, though we have done shorter stays at different resorts.

I agree that if your schedule is flexible, then UY isn't that big of an issue. In general, a UY just before your prefered travel times is probably a good idea.

We just bought at AKV and got a March UY. I think that will work well for us since we have young children and will have to worry about their school schedules for years to come. By having our points renew each March we should be good to go for any Spring Break trips (heaven forbid ) and summer trips. We will have until Aug 31st each year (a few weeks after school starts back) to bank 100% of our points, so for us a March UY is good.
