How do I convince my dh we need the Disney Visa?

I'm planning a December 2005 trip and I think it's crazy to not have a rewards card! We spend $200 a month on gas alone...:earseek: We only have 2 credit cards- one MBNA LLBean card (for the free shipping and monogramming) and a Capital One "No Hassle" card. Normally we have no credit card debt- right now due to those unexpected emergencies we do have a little... My thought is we put those things we will be paying off on the Disney Visa...gas, groceries, that kind of thing.

Do your reward dollars expire? With the $50 bonus offer right now, I don't see how we could go wrong!

My opinon is that the Disney rewards card doesn't give a very high return....

Unless you are charging very large amounts..

My Disney visa I spent $1400 I recieved 14 dollars.

My Amex which I use a majority of the time...I spent say 4000...I get 4000 points. I use this to get a free suite at the Dolphin the suites are 20,000 points. So, 20,000pts is $20,000; the value of the suite is $800.

If I spent $20,000 on my Disney visa I'd get $200 cash...so, my amex gives me 4X's the value for the same spending...

I do us my Disney visa for those places that don't take Amex...but for me it Disney visa doesn't have the best rewards...

I have the Disney VISA but as far as rewards cards go, it's not that great. I have never taken them up on any of their offers for rooms or packages at WDW because there are almost always better deals available to the public or AP holders.

The $50 DDRD is a nice incentive to get you to apply for the card (it's the equivalent of charging $5,000). But they really need to offer something more to keep you charging on their card beside's the 0% interest for 6 months on packages booked at WDTC. Every once in a while, they'll offer double rewards for purchases like gasoline and groceries, or for spending over a given dollar amount per billing cycle.

But, I think that there are better rewards cards out there. Capital One is good for those airline tickets. DH's Diner's Club offers a lot of flexibility in their rewards program. AMEX has some pretty good offers as well. The advantages of the Disney VISA are that there is no annual fee and their website is pretty easy to navigate. I find it very easy to make payments to my account and can post several payments per month rather than waiting until the end of the billing cycle. The disadvantages are the high interest rate and the two-cycle billing method that leaves you paying interest on your balances for 2-months instead of one.

If you're set on getting the Disney VISA, you should know that the DDRD are good for 60 billing cycles from the date that they are posted to your account. That's about 5 years. You need to transfer the DDRD to a rewards card before they can be used. The first transfer must be at least $20 and all subsequent transfers must be a minimum of $10. Once DDRD are transferred to a rewards card, they expire on Dec. 31 of the year following the year in which the rewards card was issued. Confused yet? In other words, if you were to transfer $20 DDRD to a new card today (8/17/04), those DDRD would expire on 12/31/2005. If you keep them in your account, they will not expire until 5 years from when they were earned.

I'm sorry that I can offer more of an incentive for you & your DH to get a Disney VISA but if you research the many rewards cards out there, I think that you'll find that there are better deals.

I just ordered my Disney Visa and plan to use it for everything. I currently have an Amazon.com visa with the same rewards, more or less, that Disney has but I have $125 worth of rewards that I haven't used. After our last trip to Disney and another one for sure in the next 5 years, I think I'll definitely be able to make having the Disney Visa worthwhile.

I will probably put between 1,000 and 2,000 dollars a month on the Visa because I use it everywhere I can. I also ordered one for my husband. There's no annual fee with the Disney Visa. One of the big selling points for me is that you don't have to pay interest for the first 6 months. That will help us build up a little savings that was depleted from our trip last month. I'm told that you can buy park tickets and meals at all Disney owned restaurants and resorts with the Rewards. Even if we just have $200-$300 in rewards by the next trip that will help a lot. The only way it's really worth it though is if you pay off your Visa bill every month (after the first 6 months).

I did look into getting an airline visa instead, but we usually fly southwest and their reward points expire after one year. We don't fly a whole lot and may drive to Disney on our next trip.

There is a link to a site somewhere on this board that tells you how to get $50 in rewards when you order the Disney Visa and you can order online. I ordered the Disney Visa and then told my husband about it. I don't know why you can't do the same. I will try to find the link to the $50 reward. It also has posts by several people saying how much they were able to accumulate.

I don't think it's the best card for rewards either. We have a mastercard acct. that we use most of the time because we like their rewards program.

I will say that the Disney visa does occasionally come out with some worthwhile specials.
I just got great seats for the Lion King touring production coming our way. I was able to order them yesterday through a Disney visa special. I have not even received my offer that is supposed to be coming to get advance tickets through the childrens theatre we have season passes for yet. The tickets don't go on sale to the general public until mid Sept.
Great perk for us and worth it to keep the card and charge on it occasionally just to keep getting that type of offer. We never carry a balance on it though.
